Ben's lectures actually got me back into chess, back before this channel even existed. His lectures on the CCSCSL and CCSCATL channels are very entertaining and good for beginners and intermediates because they hammer in the basics of piece activity, king safety and tactics. He's shifted more to twitch and streaming which I don't watch as much, but still. Also, respect to Levy for discussing games he lost so freely.

Ben’s lectures in St. Louis absolutely helped me as a newer player; I went from clueless to spotting basic tactical sequences with ease. I always got a little sense of pride when somebody on the video asked about or suggested some move and I was able to find the refutation before Ben answered.

Ben's channel is larded with sarcasm. That's just how he is and that's what I've liked about him ever since he started teaching at Saint Louis. People who don't understand what sarcasm means always try to argue about Ben like ''he's such an elitist'' or ''he just hates anyone who's better or worse''. That's not the point at all. After the Hikaru drama he did some explanation of who he hates and who not. He doesn't hate anybody. He just likes to mess around a bit with his sarcasm. He might have some beef with Hikaru, but I would even doubt that and that's not the point I want to make. There's no (real) tension between chess streamers.
