I didn't understand the gold hammer reference until I googled it. Fix-it Felix from Wreck-it Ralph. I always wanted to see Ben Heck do something with MetalJesus since he got the N64DD and Ben did great videos about the SNES PlayStation. I also wanted to see Ben Heck do something with the 8bit guy since Dave always tries keyboards and Ben created that Atari one. The only way for this video to be more epic would be if: 1. He met James Rolfe. 2. It had more Karen and Felix. Haha! You can see from this video that Ben is very down to earth and a cool guy. What was the clip "'I want to live in a world with Star Wars again"'?

I'm only 25 so my nostalgia for video games is primarily centered around gameboy color, but my dad owned a saga master system which was technically the only video game console i played for a good chunk of my early childhood so I had fun showing off the master system emulator I installed on my tablet to my family. I can't imagine spending money on that nostalgia though since prices are all jacked up and the hardware is dilapidated at best.

Nobody has talked about the Nintendo PlayStation Prototype here in the comments yet. Nice job with the drive replacement!. Too bad the game didn't boot up. That would've been epic!. Even though no sound did come out of the headphones jack, having the CDA being played is proof enough to me that it should be capable of reading non-music data. Perhaps the game CD needs to be burned using a nonstandard file system?, I guess the answer would be in the test cartridge ROM... I'm looking forward to watching a new Nintendo PlayStation prototype episode! Awesome job!, keep it up!!

Okay just a Question : is it Possible to Recreate a Nintendo Playstation just if you get all the Programming from the Chips and some of them are Common ones so would it be Hard to recreat one ? Or is it impossible
@KellyPrime
8 жыл бұрын
Yeah because if all the Programms on the Chips would be out there you could recreat it right ?
@stonent
8 жыл бұрын
Technically yes, with FPGAs you can program them to replicate nearly any digital (and sometimes analog) chips.
@KuraIthys
8 жыл бұрын
I suspect you could. In terms of the work involved I think it'd be much easierr to replicate the add-on version than the prototype seen in this version though. You'd build a CD-ROM unit and the cartridge that comes with it, but let an actual snes do what it does. That means you don't need to emulate anything an snes does, just the parts the CD drive handles. Personally the easiest thing I can come up with to do that is to take the interface program that lets the snes circuitry read CD's, then create a translation program in an FPGA that converts those signals to something that can be understood by a modern SATA CD/DVD drive. If you can do that translation/conversion, the snes won't know the difference, and the SATA disk drive won't know the difference either, and the bit in the middle translates everything so they both understand each-other. The main thing that you'd have to figure out here is how the snes is supposed to communicate with it's CD drive. But really the only thing you need for that is the test program that's on the cartridge, so you know where it reads and writes data to, and what kind of commands it sends to the drive, and what the drive sends back.
@KellyPrime
8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the Explenation is Rom of the Cartridge out there ?
@Kisai_Yuki
8 жыл бұрын
It would not be that trivial to replicate the entire SNES, add-on chips and the CD-ROM attachment as one FPGA. There is a project called MSU1 that basically does what the CD-ROM bits could in theory do and lets you actually play pcm audio tracks and FMV on a real SNES. So think about a "SNES-mini" for a moment. If Nintendo really wanted to go above and beyond and make the SNES-mini something different, they could retroactively add the option to play the games with the official sound tracks that originally came out on CD instead of the SPC program (essentially having two versions of each game.) Which this is what I think happened in the video with the audio cd playing, is that perhaps games would have been programmed to be aware of the CD-ROM would have played the tracks, but if you put any cd-audio disc in the drive, it would mute the game's audio and play the cd. Presumably a game that actually came on CD-ROM would be loaded into RAM to avoid having to constantly re-seek. Take note of the kinds of seek delays exist on the PSX, Sega-CD, and CDi.
