The June 17 train accident in West Bengal has claimed 10 lives and left several injured. The goods train had rammed into the rear of the Kanchanjunga Express near Rangapani in Darjeeling district. The prima facie suspect is the goods train had overshot the signal. Soon after the accident, Railways had tried indicating that the fault was of the loco-pilot Anil Kumar, who himself has died. But after passenger Chaitali Majumdar denied lodging any complaint with the RPF, the focus came back on Railways and the spotlight is on the alleged fake complaint and the purported need for it. NTT investigates the anomalies so far.
