Thanks. My parents were at the Moscow concert. I have the program they saved.

Goodman visited many large cities in the USSR and made his own documentary film, shared his impressions about the tour, about the difference in the public of these cities. It's a pity that this movie is not on KZitem.

Обожаю Гудмэна, за его технику, оркестр, который даже сыграл самый великий концерт в истории джаза... Невозможно переоценить его успехи. Спасибо!!!

Спасибо for posting this! I always felt that the band Goodman assembled for his tour of Russia in 1962 was among his best bands. It featured Mel Lewis on drums, Phil Woods on alto, Zoot Sims on tenor, John Bunch on piano and Joe Newman and Jimmy Maxwell on trumpet. (Teddy Wilson also played piano with small groups.) A two-LP set on RCA Victor Records is about all that was heard in the US; although much more had been recorded. Apparently, the Russians got their hands on some tape recorded by Americans, or they made some recordings on their own; because, most of the tunes heard in this film were not on Victor's LP set. (BTW, I just found out that the LP set has been reissued on CD--very worth acquiring.)

PODERIAM TER FEITO ESSAS FILMAGENS TAMBÉM COM AS APRESENTAÇÕES DE GLENN MILLER NAS APRESENTAÇÕES NO CAFÉ ROUGE DO HOTEL PENNSYLVANIA EM NOVA YORK! COM AS CÂMERAS POSICIONADAS PELO RECINTO E FAZEREM AS FILMAGENS NA ÍNTEGRA! O MESMO ACONTECEU DOIS ANOS ANTES, EM 1938, NO HISTÓRICO CONCERTO DE GOODMAN NO CARNEGIE HALL! NÃO FIZERAM AS GRAVAÇÕES! ISSO FOI IMPERDOÁVEL!!!

Agree with Gustav-it's the second half of Sing, Sing, Sing. It took up two sides of a 1937 Victor 12", 78 RPM record at 8:43. At the 1938 Carnegie Hall performance, the song clocked in at 12:30.

@@Melody_Mike.4460 The second part of 'Sing, Sing, Sing' is called 'Christopher Columbus'. It was composed by Chu Berry with lyrics by Andy Razaf. In 1936, Fats Waller had a novelty hit with the song. If you Google The Ink Spots, you'll find their version of the song on KZitem which is performed at a rather more leisurely tempo than that of Benny Goodman.
