I am so looking forward to ditching my regular projector that has oodles and oodles of feet of cable running to the back of my movie room because of the way my house is laid out, to going with this, simply so I can get rid of the cable runs and conduit and crap that I had to put in place to run signals! Hallelujah. I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of black level performance to get my house back in order and toss out the wiring, mounts, and garbage just to support a rear projecting unit. Thank you for this great review! Sold!

Love that this is native 4K laser , 2500 lumen , 3D capable , with support for HDR, HDR10+, and color accuracy 98% , contrast 2M:1 is great .. missing those deep blacks is a bummer .. I have an OLED in the other room so I’m used to those . Really pops in outer space scenes and night shots ..which is very common in most of my movie collection. @@ChrisMajestic The Epson EH-LS500 has the lowest input lag of all UST projectors, so is easily the best one for gamers so far. There are 2 negatives with it though and they are a longer throw ratio and the blacks are quite poor. Epson's more modern looking little brother to the LS500 is the shorter throw 1080p HDR LS300 with it's inbuilt very snappy Android 9 TV, quite possibly the best sounding UST projector on the market right now and has better black levels which are superior to the LS500. As long as you don't exceed 80% Brightness on the LS300 then the fan noise makes it sound as though it's ready to take off. Both the Epson LCD models have zero rainbow effects and also automaticaly output 24hz/50hz and 60hz refresh rates as that and don't automatically convert every refresh rate to 60hz like all the DLP UST projectors do. As an all round UST projector i would say the LS300 although it's 1080p native is possibly the one to beat bang for buck in the UST category right now. Looking forward to your reviews and thoughts of the LS500 and Ls300.

Great review Chris, I've been looking for a mid range UST for my first projector and this might be it! Do you think the black level issues you had might have been due to you using an ALR screen? I thought for a UST you needed to use a CLR screen, which accepts light below and rejects it from above, wheras an ALR accepts light from a long throw while rejecting indirect light from the sides? Unless you're using ALR as a generic term and you have a CLR screen?

In Sweden I can get them for the same price, roughly 2600 USD. My living room is bright during the day, therefore I'm thinking about getting the LS500 with its superior output. My first question is whether 4000 ANSI lumen and 2500 make a huge difference? I mean is it linear? Is the Epson really 60% brighter? Do you think the 2500 Lumen from the BenQ will be enough with a good ALR screen? Unless there is a huge difference in brightness I'm thinking about getting the BenQ since it has way better throw ratio. Thanks / Magnus
