This episode the team is reviewing the Benromach 21 year old.
A well-aged treat from the Benromach Distillery. Benromach famously boasts a subtly smoky spirit, quite unusual for a Speysider. However, back in the day, it was common practice to top up fires with cuts of peat when the coal ran low. Aged entirely in a selection of first-fill Sherry and ex-Bourbon casks for a minimum of 21 years, this dram displays gentle spice and fruit notes over the top of the smouldering notes of old Speyside.

Tasting notes:
Nose:
The sherry is immediately apparent but well tamed by the ex-Bourbon casks. Features notes of orange oils, powdered ginger and dried apricots with a touch of smoky dark fruits.
Taste:
Initially sweet with raspberry jam, dark honey and juicy orange. Baked apple pie, cracked black pepper, tangy oak and bonfire smoke emerge as time goes on.
Finish:
Sherry notes dominate the medium-long finish with classic fruitcake, toffee apple and baking spice, supported by charred oak and soft smoke.
