My father also owned one of these odysseys, the timing belt job had been done during the previous owner's ownership. Fast forward five years and 35,000 miles, the tensioner gave out and the engine jumped timing leading to bent valves. The previous shop most likely installed a crappy aftermarket tensioner that most likely leaked out its hydraulic fluid. If you own a car with one of these engines, at least change the tensioner often, since it's a common failure point in the timing belt assembly kit. There is a way to do it with out removing the harmonic balancer/crankshaft pulley (lookup Honda 3.5L V6 timing belt tensioner install on YT) to get to the plastic timing belt cover on the bottom part of the engine (front right wheel) -use a 27mm socket attached to a few extensions (the 27mm socket is just enough to slip over the tensioner) -Remove the top 10mm bolt of the tensioner while making sure the tensioner is straight by applying force with the 27mm socket + extension(s) to make sure you don't damage the threads of the bolt. ***(use the 27mm socket and extensions as a pry bar holding the tensioner in place) -Remove the bottom bolt of the timing belt tensioner and remove the tensioner -Pull the grenade pin of the tensioner (IK you're supposed to remove it after installing the tensioner bolts, but you don't have access cuz the timing belt cover is overlapped by the crank pulley). Angle the tensioner in a way that only the bottom bolt hole aligns with the threads (if it doesn't align, SLOWLY and BARELY move the crank pulley clockwise till the hole aligns)and then thread in the lower bolt - don't tighten the bolt all the way down , the tensioner needs to pivot. -Use the 27mm socket w/extensions and pry the tensioner upwards until the top bolt hole aligns with the threads. ****If you're working on a car that doesn't have any space for you to bring your arm in and apply prying force to the 27mm socket and extension (for ex: my 2009 Acura TL 3.5L - pain in the ass), use a pry bar (rested against something) perpendicularly against the 27mm socket w/extensions. ********** Tighten both 10mm bolts to 8.7 ft-lbs Pro Tip, use new OE bolts when reinstalling the new timing belt tensioner. In my case, the previous clown over torqued the bolts and my socket slipped a couple of times trying to take off the bolts...thank god the bolt heads didn't round off. In my case, a 2009 Acura TL (3.5L) had a terrible design as the tensioner was behind the frame/sheet metal...so i had to wedge my 10mm socket and wrench blindly between the engine and the frame/sheet metal part FML. Hope this helps anyone out there.🤙

This is why I NEVER REUSE A TIMING BELT TENSIONER!! I've seen people that want to be cheap and only replace the timing belt. DO EVERYTHING WHILE YOU'RE IN THERE.

Of course but this is the original components the customer ignored all the noises. But I'm sure they'll get on TikTok and blame Honda

I had my water pump replaced on my F150 when I got my timing chain replaced. Nothing was wrong with it but they were already in there plus it was the original one.

Is the new stubby a 3/8 or 1/2?

3/8ths. 1/2 is overkill for this stubby imo. The point of it being so small is to get into tight spaces, 3/8ths sockets are smaller than 1/2 so it just makes sense to me.

Imma through another weird question for you TE, one of my friend’s accord 2014 4cyl vibrates at red light. He has cleaned his throttle body, i thought i would the mounts but, the vibration only happens when its hot outside, usually 24-30 C(580-650 ideal rmp), but doesnt happen when it’s relatively cold (750 ideal rpm). Any insight on this? thanks
