Wow guys, you really need to post an extended version of this epic road trip. Great car, great scenery, great filming crew and an outstanding host!

I see this car almost every day, a neighbour has it, a black, brown seats, wonderful car. Though not so practical in the city, I guess. When that mighty W12 starts up, you forget about the little practical issues. Never drove it, but I wouldn't mind ;)

I'm pretty sure you're wrong there. The '13 GT500 coupe has a manufacturer tested top speed of 202MPH. The convertible has no artificial speed limiter, so even with drag, it probably is capable of at least 185MPH, probably more. It would be illogical to think this car at +/- 600 pounds heavier and 50 fewer HP would be outpacing a GT500 vert on the top end.

This video could have been fairly epic. Not saying the video is bad, it's a great video, but I can tell there was a great deal of potential could have been utilized with some production quality. KBB recently did the exact same road trip in a Tesla S that feels more like a short movie. I really feel like Autocar suffers from a lack of sufficient storytelling that could really make their videos shine.
@tayl0rd553

I did watch that episode. If you go back and watch the same one all the way through, you will see that Motor Trend proved that the car is technically capable of running 200MPH and beyond. It exceeded the safe operating range of the dyno. So gearing is definitely not an issue. At the end, Randy said it is fair to say it is a 200MPH car in better conditions. They tested at high altitude and 100+* temps. The GTC wouldn't hit 200 MPH in those conditions, either.

They hit 196mph in the morning when it wasn't that hot out. The GTC was just on a test track too and they didn't complain about bad conditions because they chose that test track just like MT chose their test track, conditions are NEVER completely perfect and no car is going to be able to hit its true top speed w/out a limiter on the road. Under perfect conditions, the GTC maybe able to hit 200mph with the roof down. The GT500 coupe may be able to hit 200mph but the conv. can't for sure.
@bartboy9892
11 жыл бұрын
MT chose that test track to do the top speed and they did it when it wasn't hot out in the morning. They can make all the excuses they want but they only hit 196mph in the GT500 coupe. Autocar went to the track and only hit 195mph with the top down and 205 with the top up in the GTC and didn't make any lame excuses about it. NEW GTC speed is faster than the old one. What makes you think the GT500 conv. is going to go 200 if the coupe can't + the conv. is always going to be slower than the coupe?
@bartboy9892
11 жыл бұрын
The base Mustang isn't aerodynamically made to go 200mph, the base Bentley Continental GT was and there's the gearing too. If you go to MotorTrend youtube page and find "Ignition Episode 18" you'll see that the 2013 GT500 COUPE could only hit 196mph. If you go back and watch Autocar review of Bentley GTC from 2009 on youtube, it hit 195mph with the roof down and 205mph with the roof up. And the GT500 conv. is going to be slower than GT500 Coupe, and the new Bentley is faster than the old one.

How can you say that with absolute certainty? No one has tried in either of the convertibles to hit 200. But that's not what you and I are debating. We are debating whether or not the GTC is faster than the GT500 convertible. I think not, but it would be interesting to see the challenge.

Oy! So 50 more HP would get the GTC over 200MPH, yet you believe the GT500 convertible can't equal (or better) the GTC despite having OVER 50 more HP than the GTC and 400+ pounds less weight? And even though a professional (and championship) race driver clearly said the GT500 is capable of cracking 200MPH, you still can't bring yourself to believe it can? I'd be interested to know the conditions when the Continental broke 200. I bet not 2400'+ and 90*+ temperatures. Be reasonable.

What? The convertible isn't going to be faster than the coupe because of added weight and more compromised aerodynamics unless it's got extra power. Autocar hit 195mph in the old GTC speed with the top down and 205mph with the top up, go watch that video on youtube. The new GTC speed has more power and better aerodynamics and is definitely faster than the old one. The new GT500 COUPE couldn't hit 200mph, so the convertible DEFINITELY can't unless it has another 50hp.

Jeremy Clarkson is a very funny guy but never trust the crap he says...other people have commented on the stupidity of that statement, so I'm just gonna provide another example of Jezza's untrustworthiness He thinks that the "new" Aston Martin, which looks 85% like all Astons since the year 2000, is the most beautiful car in the world, and the all new Viper "looks exactly like the last one"! His shows are entertaining but that doesn't make his made-up facts right!

Well that's a load of nonsense. Abortion is legal in America FYI... So idk what you're talking about. And i already said I disagree with the warmongering, most ppl arnt even in favor of it. It's just the government. And yes, actually the middle class is still richer in America than in Europe. U can look up the stats for yourself on that. On average 20% richer compared to Europe, houses are twice as big, everything is cheaper ect...
@Meatlooaf
11 жыл бұрын
I don't remember saying anything about abortion...Only this "pro-life" bullshit. Americans pay for things we get for free, (healthcare and such). Fewer people in europe, atleast where i live (sweden) are poor. secondly, the middleclass here have a higher standard of living than in America. so we are richer in the sense that we treat our poor people better than you do, and that will always be the ultimate measurement of wealth. everything isn't about GDP, but in how you spend that money.
