Album leaf is the title of numerous minor compositions by a wide variety of classical composers. It also appears in the French version, "Feuille d'album"; the German version "Albumblatt" (pl. Albumblätter). Originally, the term "Album leaf" was used for pieces written in dedication to a friend or admirer, to be inserted into their album or autograph book, and not intended for publication.
The Albumblätter op 124 by Robert Schumann (1810-1856) is one of the last collections published during the composer's life. Of the twenty pieces in the album, none were composed specifically for this set; the pieces were compositions that Schumann had never before prepared for publication. Schumann revised all of these works during the years 1850-1851, and later compiled them for publication in 1853. The Little Lullaby no 6 has become the most famous.
