A pistol-caliber carbine may be helpful in a home defense setting where the user doesn't need to worry about concealment, but also wants to reduce the chance of over-penetration presented by a rifle cartridge. As compared to a handgun, the carbine would offer better precision aiming, lower felt recoil and controllability during rapid fire, and would likely accommodate magazines with larger capacities, although this last point may not be true of the Beretta CX4 Storm in particular.

The CX4 reminds me of the Browning Automatic Rifle back in WWII. They look nothing the same,but the BAR shot fully automatic and semi automatic and took the same bullets of an M1 Garand,but they can also be firred into a machine gun. The CX4 took smaller pistol bullets,but it's still a carbine,and,like the BAR,it can fire semi automatic and fully auto.

I have one chambered in 45 ACP. Got it back in early 05. Super accurate and not a single jam ever with hardball or JHP. My only gripe is 9 round mags max. They promised hi cap mags would become available and it never happened for the 45. Only the 9mm and 40 S&W. I have written to Beretta and called them to no avail. Very well made fit and finish in a nice hard case. Just need hi caps dammit!

Hornady TAP 147gr if you need good ammo. If you're just plinking or don't want to pay that much the UMC is usually pretty good for carbines, and gets pretty good velocity out of the longer barrel.

I think that the biggest reason people buy this gun is that it looks very cool -- something out of HALO (even though it still shoots great). The Hi Point 9mm Carbine looks like something out of WWII. The Cx Storm, something from the future. I'd save my duckets until you can afford the Beretta.
@airsoftdude1990

Depends on the carbine. An m4 carbine is 5.56mm, and the Beretta Rx4 is 5.56. You can get these Cx4s in 9mm, .40 and .45. They use the same mechanism as the Beretta Px4 and fire with the same mechanisms. Just remember Px4= pistol Cx4= Carbine Rx4= Rifle

Not for prejudice. I have had a Beretta 98fs (92 in 9x21 caliber) and a CX4 Storm in .40S&W and I've encountered many problems with the first one (jams and a slide fracture) and the second one (frame locking system and trigger action). Many friends of mine, who uses Beretta products, have encountered similar problems. It's not prejudice, it's the truth.

@Skoxx16 I was making a joke. A LEGAL mac-10 will fire the exact same ammunition as this gun, but is full-auto. The downside is that it costs around $5,000 dollars. I have this gun here - the Storm - and I like it fine. I'm sure its more accurate than any Mac-10, and also a fraction of the price. If you don't mind semi-auto only, then its fantastic. I wish the trigger was a little better, but it holds and points great.

A couple of problems with that. The KRISS is still prototype and if its not picked up by one of the armed forces which their not likely to do with the reduced funding on the future weapons program you wont see it at your local gun store any time soon. I would still choose the MP5 in 10mm over the CX4 in 45. ACP.

fellow Marine brother, I hear you, but...for non military and close to home for local PD, this could be a good weapon to work with. It has the range of a rifle, but less of the overpenatration of one like a pistol or a SMG. I'd prefer the HK416, now those shoot like a dream.

@afetterhoff It works great at 100 and under - my own CX4 9mm has brought in 6 deer and a coyote - all at about 50-65 yards. They usually run 20-40 yards and then go down. Gotta try for double-lung with a hollow-point - it works just fine. It would work just fine on people too. It will never be a .223 or a .308, but it will never cost that much either. Probably not epic, but take it seriously? The gun definitely works.

It is just a matter of personal preference as far as caliber. 9mm .40 S&W, or .45 ACP are lethal rounds. I cary a .45 for ccw. I own one of these in 9 mm because it cheaper to shoot and I shoot the hell out it. BTW cheap FMJ .45 ACP is 800 fps. Premium loads can go excess of 1000 fps. just they are exensive( like over a buck a round) I load them in ccw for defense. I can load some hand loads that will go in the range of 1150 with spear gold dot 200 grain and medium burning powder.

There are a few around that price range (around 50-100 bucks more) but you could build a pretty good one yourself for about the same. And really thats where a lighter hollow point load. To me an AR15 could serve many more purposes than a CX4 storm...and based on the ones I have used, I would rather have my hi point, based on price to quality.
