A walk through Berlin-Charlottenburg from the Kaiserdamm underground station to Brixplatz (Neu-Westend)
Let's start our walk at the Kaiserdamm underground station, a central point in the Berlin district of Charlottenburg. The station itself, opened in 1908, reflects the architectural elegance of the early 20th century. In the immediate vicinity is the Berlin Exhibition Center, a major center for international trade fairs and congresses. A quick look at the striking radio tower building is a must - this landmark, built in the 1920s, is reminiscent of the Eiffel Tower and offers a fantastic view of the city.
From Kaiserdamm, our route leads west to the Theodor-Heuss-Platz underground station. This square, which was originally called Reichskanzlerplatz, was renamed in 1963 in honor of the first Federal President of the Federal Republic of Germany. The square itself is an important transport hub and impresses with its spacious design with green areas and a central fountain. Nearby is the Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (rbb), a major television broadcaster formerly known as Sender Freies Berlin (SFB). The SFB played a crucial role in West Berlin's media landscape during the division of the city and is now an integral part of public broadcasting in Berlin and Brandenburg.
We continue our walk past the impressive residential buildings that characterize the western part of Berlin. This area is known for its well-preserved old buildings, which often boast ornate facades and richly decorated entrance areas. Particularly worth seeing are the residential buildings along Reichsstraße, which shows a typical Berlin mix of residential and commercial buildings.
We continue towards Neu-Westend, a quieter and greener district. Here, single and two-family houses with well-kept gardens dominate. The streets are lined with old trees, which creates a picturesque atmosphere, especially in spring and autumn. Neu-Westend is characterized by its high quality of life and its proximity to various green spaces, which are ideal for relaxed walks or sporting activities.
Our destination, Brixplatz, is located in the heart of Neu-Westend and is a true gem among Berlin's parks. Brixplatz was created in the 1920s and offers an idyllic mix of well-kept lawns, old trees and flowering flowerbeds. A special highlight is the artificial pond, which invites you to relax and observe nature. The park is named after the landscape architect Gustav Brix, who played a key role in the design of many of Berlin's green spaces.
Once you arrive at Brixplatz, you can enjoy the peace and beauty of this place. It is a wonderful end to our walk through one of the most diverse and historic parts of Berlin. Whether you sit down on one of the benches to read a book or simply take in the nature - Brixplatz is the perfect place to unwind and reflect on the impressions of the walk.
Enjoy the walk on a perfect sunny day! 🚶🏻🌞
