Warning: this is a pretty bad film!
Only because there are some historically interesting things in this film do I actually publish it. It will certainly never make it to DVD. The only reason for actually going through the effort of digital restoration was that it's short (10 scenes in under 5 minutes).
It was my first ever film in Switzerland, made on the first of July 1983. I had had the camera for less than half a year at that point. All I knew about filming came from books, and it wasn't a lot. The actual practice taught me a lot more, and quickly. The young optimist thought that one return trip with an intermediate stop on the GBS line could actually lead to a proper film! No way. It is a collection of fragments put in order, and a few of these make it somewhat watchable forty years later.
We see:
1. Titel
2. Arrival in Bern Fischermätteli
3. Driver's-eye view of departure from Köniz (much too long)
4. Arrival at request stop Schwarzwasserbrücke
5. Crossing the road after Schwarzwasserbrücke
6. Train in the terminus Schwarzenburg
7. Driver's-eye view of the track towards Schwarzwasserbrücke
8. Rail viaduct seen from road viaduct. The best scene by far!
9. Leaning out of the window while looking forward
10. Arrival at Berne central
I really did learn a lot from this little debacle, as only a couple of days later I made films that I quite like up to this very day.
Preparing this film was an excercise, really, to see whether the whole path for getting to a properly restored super-8 film was functioning well. I'll add the unedited version in a comment for comparison, which shows how the films deteriorated over time.
