Peeps who think this fight wasn’t exciting aren’t getting it. Two lively young hungry legends going at it. Jones gets the nod in reaction time/reflex and agility but still highly impressed by Hopkins. He fought very well. Jones like the Bruce Lee of boxing the way he fought back then. Instincts off the charts. Agility with power unpredictable shots.Hopkins fought him in deep waters and had some excellent rushes where he banged away hi and lo able to back him to ropes with very good footwork determination. Both super talented but also super tough. Both took heavy shots and answered right back or just absorbed it like they didn’t feel anything. Gots to do lots of sparring rounds to get your body conditioned for that. People underestimate the super talented boxer’s toughness. Hopkins laid it on him in 8th, clipped him numerous times clean.Lederman a fool. 9 to 0 jones after 9 rounds, pfff whatever

Imo, these were the two of the top-5 greatest tacticians ever. You can easily guess the other three.

Bruce Lee also has a very unorthodox style of fighting, and it’s not the one you see in the movies. When you’re on an elite level of quickness, like Bruce Lee & Roy Jones, you can afford to fight different than everyone else.

theirs a little trick hopkins had during his career too see if his opponent had trained and during weigh ins , confrences etc he would grab your shoulders , tap your stomach , grab your arms etc too see if youve been training he showed his same trick to ward and even ward used it at times lol , very smart little trick not many would even think of doing.

Watching it again, Bernard was very green with his footwork at this stage, and Roy had a substantially longer amateur pedigree

Good fight. Roy won 9-3 maybe 8-4. Competitive but Roy controlled and won.

I respect Roy cuz he fractured his metacarpal in the 3 or 4 rd. I'm sure that bothered him but he never made an excuse. To this day he's never talked about it. Outside sources spilled the beans. Hopkins is a tough SOB!!!!

Roy Jones controlled this fight, even up against the ropes. Larry Merchant knows nothing about boxing.

We’d never get this stylistic matchup today lol two elite skilled, athletic boxers in their prime would never fight each other. This would be like us getting Boots vs Crawford or Haney vs Shakur

Yeah and Hopkins won maybe 2 rounds. Who cares if most rds were competitive. Hopkins smothers and doesn't land anything effectively for most of the fight.
