"Worked? How so?" I've genuinely met people like this who are so completely ideologically opposed to certain things that they can't even understand how someone disagrees with them. They're opinion that the thing is bad seems completely self-evident to them. It becomes impossible to talk to them. Perfectly portrayed here lol
@FiltyIncognito

There's more to it than that, unfortunately. Many of those people are just aggressively belligerent to the point of ignorance, but some of them are just people with well thought out but different viewpoints. Whats often pushed as common sense isn't always right. A lot of those things that "everyone knows" is just shallow parrot-chatter, or more elaborate constructs built on top of parrot-chatter. To the more knowledgeable, people still stuck on laymen understandings are like children trying to converse with adults. Not everyone is aggressively belligerent, of course, but it can often be exasperating wanting to have a conversation in a field you're hoping to get a better understanding of through conversation but just keep running into proverbial children. It takes a lot of time and energy to enlighten people. Its why teaching is a job with such a huge place in society. If you want to earn a more well-rounded understanding of things, sometimes you just gotta just genuinely ask those belligerant people to explain theirselves further. Could be that they actually know something interesting that you don't, or maybe you could simultaneously learn why a human might hold such passionate beliefs and help enlighten them by shining a light on some things they might overlook. Or maybe the issue isn't even the topic itself but some related or underlying matter. Either way, it's a very humanising experience (...if yall can keep from turning a conversation into a fight, anyway).
@elijahbuscho7715

@@FiltyIncognito I agree fully. A lot of times I ask questions out of genuine curiosity, and people will just flat out remain silent, embarrassed because they don't actually understand a belief that they ascribe to. It sucks because I don't want to embarrass them, or make them feel dumb, but that often ends up happening, or they substitute their embarrassment for anger and call me ignorant. I truly hate it when people shame others for not knowing something because no one knows everything, and shaming people just makes this phenomenon more common, where people fake being in the know. Society would be so much better if we could ask genuine questions and give genuine answers, and admit when we are unsure without judgement.

That's a bleak way of looking at that. I think just challenging a base assumption like that can be good (regardless of whether you actually disagree) because by doing so you have to form an actual opinion. How has the global economy system worked? By answering the question you end up acknowledging various economic crisis, which gives the answer to the question. Is it a pleasant way to argue or debate? No, definitely not and what's more it doesn't make that much sense to expect the full spiel to play out in an interview like this. But it is a response that isn't (necessarily) founded in being unable to understand another position, it is just rude and uncaring for what the interviewer wants and needs, which is exavzly how Gilfoyle acts in the rest of the scene.
