I got my family to play Ticket to Ride on Thanksgiving and they were blown away with it. (Mother and Father in their 50's, me and my brother in our 30's.) They loved it so much they wanted me to come the next day and we played again. Now we're even talking of having board game nights every Friday. Now it's up to me to keep things fresh and introduce new games that aren't going to scare them off! Sagrada looks like a nice game, I may look into that. I'm all about games that are simple to learn, offer deep strategy, but look amazing. I think presentation is half the game imo.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I watched a couple videos on games from other KZitemrs and they all felt a bit pretentious. My family has been playing a lot of catan, ticket to ride, and mariokart monopoly and I needed some ideas on how to move us forward in gaming. You’re video was perfect for me and I can’t wait to pick up a couple of these. I think I might start with King of Tokyo.

So I learned from my family that Sagrada had too many things to keep track of for points and rules and they found it confusing and overwhelming for those reasons. And they ended up liking Azul much better once we tried it. My family prefers ticket to ride London over the big US map. It's faster. I'll play ticket to ride with them but I get board after a game or two. And another day I'll go play Mage Knight solo.

I really like King of Tokyo. A better co-op game might be Forbidden Island as it's super easy to play and win then advance to Forbidden Desert, which is more challenging. Horrified is my favorite co-op game but not everyone is into the classic movie monsters. A lot of people have already mentioned Ticket to Ride and I have to say, it's a very easy game to learn how to play but it takes practice to play it well.

Sagrada was a bust when our group played it, Two of the four people playing had issues telling the colors apart. The other games you mentioned I would agree with you on except for 5minutedungen which I have never heard of but will check it out.

Oh no! Color sensitivity is definately something board game developers have been considering more as of late. Too bad Sagrada didn't work out. 5 Minute Dungeon is a blast! I doubt anyone could not like that one :)

You might want to consider Azul or Azul Summer Pavilions. They scratch the same itch, but are less color-dependent since there are also unique symbols on each color.

Still think Las Vegas and For Sale are the 2 best entry level games. Ones a simple dice game and ones a simple card game. Huge plus not having to say “board game” when you try to convince people to play a board game.

Solid choices. I have two groups I play with and King of Tokyo is one my group's favorites to the point where we have every single expansion and it makes the game a lot better once you're well acquainted with the base game. I also like for new players: Zombie Dice Exploding Kittens Splendor Dixit Concept Sushi Go!
