Great video and just ordered my first action camera and set up using your Amazon store! I've been going back and forth about getting an action camera, which one, and set up for a year now and this video gave me the kick I needed to just do it. Thank you for putting this together and can't wait to start videoing my bike rides...when it's not -13F outside. 🥶😂

Thanks for some great tips and a very detailed breakdown of your setup. There are so many KZitem videos out there on Vlogging helmet setups, but none that expand beyond moto vlogging but also basic handheld vlogging by adapting mounting and audio options for each situation. I’d seen the clamp-type chin mount before, but I’ve continued to hunt down something that fixes securely to the helmet which has ultimately limited my options, I may have to rethink, however, I wish you knew where you sourced the small Lavalier mic, finding good quality miniature mics has been a challenge; I actually use two mics in my helmet, 1. To pick my voice up 2. One is located by one of the earpiece speakers to capture my wife talking over the intercom (it’s a little crude but works amazingly well). I also made the mistake of going with the mic adaptor for my GoPro, and while I bought a Ulanzi cage to hold everything, I have no idea why I didn’t just get the media mod 😊 Lastly the quick release mounting - I use a similar system for my mirrorless camera but hadn’t come across the Falcom QR system - clearly I didn’t pay much attention to these on the Ulanzi site 😊 Thanks again - very useful info and of course always a high standard of presentation.

Hi, I had similar issues with the GoPro camera; it would freeze up in the cold weather and sometimes just randomly. I've just learned that blue batteries are not recommended for the cold weather and need to replace it with Enduro (gray) batteries. Also, I need to use GoPro approved and tested SanDisc Extreme microSD cards. Hopefully, this will fix the issues with the camera freezing up when I need it most... Thank you Sterling for sharing details on your setup; it's very informative!

Good stuff. I've seen these clips before that hook to the helmet. I hadn't thought about hooking the mic directly to the inside of that clip. Too easy. I'm a pretty heavy mouth breather, so I'm not sure that having the mic directly in front of my mouth is the best plan versus having it off to the side. Do you think that's something that you can edit away? Take down the breathing, but leave the actual words at normal volume? Can't wait to see your next video.

Yes, that's what I try to do - edit out all of the pauses in between the talking parts.

@@SterlingNoren instead of using a long corded mic like that, I learned that a replacement video game boom is about 5-6 inches long, and works just about right to run under the chin of the helmet. Probably just as easy to tack it to the clip like you do.

The DJI Action 3 camera is a great action camera, and is quite versatile as a motovlogging set up. I actually have all 3 of DJIs cameras and they each have a specific use for me when I'm riding and filming. The thing about 360 cameras is that while they save shooting set up time, they extend the editing time. However, they are great for covering both long form content here on KZitem, and for making social media posts in different formats since you can pick 16:9, 9:16, 2:1:1 etc

Sterling, are you using a standard GoPro flat surface sticky mount on the back of your DJI RC drone controller? (time code 03:46) I think that it might be. Therefore, it should be noted that the RAM mount ball to the GoPro shoe is product code - RAP-B-202U-GOP2 on the RAM website. If, so do you find that this combination of standard GoPro mount/RAM mount and handlebar attachment provides you with a firm enough mount even while travelling on FS roads - shaking and bouncing around on uneven terrain?

Just a heads up, there is a recording gap between files on the Insta 360 One. If you're recording long enough to cause the camera to record to multiple files (more than about 15 minutes) there will be a 30-45 second gap between files and you will not record anything while it writes to the memory card. Very annoying for a helmet cam.

Yep and this is why I've not bought a more recent Insta360 camera after my One X - they all do it, typically after 30 mins depending on recording mode. I prefer to record over long periods on my bike rides/reviews and not start/stop my cameras - but it's super frustrating to sync my Insta360 footage with all it's gaps (that are not even exactly the same length each time) to external audio or my GoPros. All cameras have their pros and cons and it's matter of finding what works best for you... but trial and error gets expensive!

Remember when I said that I bought two Hero 11 GoPros for a trip to South America? Well, one of them failed completely after 10 days of use. It was a battery issue, and they’re sending me a new battery, but that didn’t help when I needed the camera. And the other one just glitches like you’ve experienced.
@Ride_0n

Other than a chin mount failing near Barstow and my GoPro Hero10 getting run over shortly thereafter, my two GoPros have worked pretty well. If I try to start recording without stopping, sometimes I guess I just don't hit the button right and it doesn't record. But I can't always stop. Oh well. I have had a couple freeze ups, but not at inconvenient times (yet). I use the Insta360 One X2 as well. It's a nifty toy, but the resolution is lacking and when I edit between 4k GoPro footage and the 360, the quality drop is rather noticeable. No matter what you use, I know your videos will be well recorded and edited in the highly professional Noren fashion we've all become accustomed to.

Great video Sterling, as usual! I have 2 questions, how do you handle bufetting/clipping of the audio if you have experienced that, are there settings you have set in the camera to compensate? I have yet to find a solution that works for me on my bike. Can you power the camera (one RS) off the bike for continuous filming? I have an Akasso and a Gopro 8. Both suck on the audio side from my experience. The Akasso has small file sizes 700MB chunks unlike the Gopro 2GB chunks. What are the file sizes on the One RS (3 questions I guess haha.) Keep up the great work Sterling.

Hey Sterling, good stuff! Can you feed the Insta One X2 camera with an external battery pack and have it run for as long as it's being fed power? I normally have a 10,000mah battery pack velcroed to my helmet and that allows me to run my Gopro for up to 8 hours nonstop. I have personally used the Gopro's for years and I (like everybody else) absolutely hate the fact that they freeze from time to time, won't turn on or off and only solution being taking the battery out. But now that you converted to Insta's ecosystem, what pro's and con's have you encountered?

After seeing this I had to get the OneRS...sheesh. :) Quick question though, not that I'll be doing much moto vloging. I have a cardo com system attached to my helmet and it seems like as long as I'm not needing the mic I could unplug the mic from the cardo system and use an extension cable to plug that mic into the OneRS mic adaptor for an occasional live narration. Thanks so much for making this video. It's demonstrated some great new options for camera work on the bike. You could try using a bit of tape to keep that selfie stick from dropping down on you when mounted on the back. A lot of the big motovloggers have been using the 360 as a rear facing camera to encompass a much wider view of the background while looking back at the rider. I don't often use the rear view with a gopro because the angle doesn't do this very well and one shot just looks the same no matter where I go. It's just me with not much background. I may be trying this 360 option next season. The new action camera looks great and has some new technology, I wonder how waterproof it will be riding in the rain and how it will hold up over the test of time.

Pretty much any helmet camera when you attach an external microphone to it loses its ability to be waterproof. I would not want to use it in a downpour but think it would do OK in a very light rain
