Some good recommendations. I'd throw Camel's first album on that list. It's very accessible with Pink Floyd leanings. "Man In The Wilderness" is a killer track by Styx. Have you heard the expanded version?

The term 'progressive rock' has changed in meaning over the years, I'm old enough to remember before it when we had 'underground' and 'psychedelic' music here in UK. 'Progressive Rock' was first coined in mid 60s to describe bands that were incorporating elements of other genres and styles of music into rock - 'progressing' rock music into different areas just as rock had originally evolved out of Rock and roll, which in turn came out of blues, folk, country etc. The bands that we referred to as 'progressive music' back then were quite wide ranging and not as 'locked in' to the narrow style it is today. An example of its use in 1969 is an sampler LP from Decca called Wowie Zowie, The World of Progressive Music which includes tracks from artists such as: Touch, John Mayall, Savoy Brown, Johnny Almond, East of Eden, Genesis, The Moody Blues, William R Strickland, The John Cameron Quartet and the Keef Hartley Band - how many of these would be now classed as 'progressive'? We definitely referred to Pink Floyd as progressive music back then, but remember there were far fewer music genres available to choose from in those days, many bands and types of music have been assigned into new genres since then; for example Black Sabbath were heavy rock and are now heavy metal.

Genesis is my fav prog band. pink floyd is #1 but if they are not prog then genesis is #1. imo they are less "proggy" than Yes. More similar to pink floyd. The later genesis albums are less prog then the 1st ones. So maybe listen to abacab/duke or trick of the tail. or if those are too soft then go straight into my fav era. The peter gabriel era. selling england by the pound is their most famous. if you like the wall from floyd you might like the lamb lies dowen on broadway. nursery cryme is a great prog album. foxtrot is their hardest album to like and mostly for the hardcore fans because of the 30min track suppers ready. but the 1st track watcher of the skies is amazing.

I've heard C&C called post hardcore or emo. Never Prog.

@@albumswithandy3561 I'm not an expert on Prog. But I've always seen them labeled as Prog, along with post-hardcore and emo... Which is why I thought it would be a softball. An easy stepping stone for Nick. ;)
