Very very impressive and cost efficient, and I will do the same, as I have the start of a problem that will end up the same as yours. What causes this, is water gets in from the sunroof, and loosens the adhesive causing the headliner to fall, There are water collector troughs under the sunroof glass, and these troughs have 4 small holes in each corner. The water goes down these holes, which have tubes attached to these holes, tubes drain out in behind your front and back wheels. You can unclog these tubes with a weed wacker nylon piece, then put the wacker plastic piece down into the hole, and down thru the tube to unclog it. This will allow water to escape, instead of overflowing, and ending up in your car, either ruing your headliner, or end up on the floor. Another area I have found, is the rubber seal along the front windshield dries up, and allows water in. There are videos here on KZitem showing how to clear these drain passages. You can also attach the nylon weed wacker piece to a drill, and slowly move it. What I'm going to do is fix mine the way you did, and then seal off my sunroof with silicone, to not allow water in. I never drive with my sunroof open, so it doesn't matter to me, but I still can use the sunroof as a window to brighten up the car. Just won't be able to open the sunroof. I do wonder where you can buy those upholstery buttons, that have small screw threads attached to them ? Very good idea, found the Video helpful. ( in Canada)

I have the same problem in my 320 d sedan car , you have done a great job , however please provide details of screw and button size ,and also add video of drilling , which bit to be used etc Thanks

You don’t need a drill bit to make a hole. Use a pointed end screw of about 3mm dia and a screw driver. It drills a hole without any difficulty. Then push in the plastic button about 4mm dia. Both you will get in any of your local auto shop.

That is not the best way to fix the problem, that is a temporary fix

Doesn't look temporary to me, as those screws will hold fine, and further water seepage won't cause the headliner to sag.

This is a temporary fix. Once the fabric coming out, most likely it will come out from all the areas so it's better to replace the whole matchng color fabric. The aproximate cost would be 15k. One challenge you might face is to find the same matching color fabric.

For x3 with panoramic sunroof, this is the only area the fabric will come out as it has a curvature upwards.

I guess you have nothing better to do with $ 15 k, but I'd prefer his way.
