PS! It's worth pointing out that this mobo might not ship with the bios version that supports the 5000 series CPU-S. In order to update the bios an older cpu is required. Few solutions: 1. If you plan to upgrade to 5000 series later, then no problem. 2. Find a cheap 2nd or 3rd gen Ryzen cpu that you could return back to the shop after you've upgraded the bios and then slot the 5000 series cpu in. Any other solutions?🤔

@JezzaWezza

Q-Flash is an amazing feature on these boards that allows you to flash the bios onto the mobo without needing an old cpu. - You need a FAT32 format usb(32gb or under for this format) - The bios version that you want to update to extracted onto the usb directly(no folders or zips) and make sure that the bios file is renamed to GIGABYTE.bin (if using a different brand look up what they want) - Once all that is set you just connect your motherboard and cpu power plugs nd NOTHING ELSE (No cpu, ram or gpu, NOTHING) - Then plug the usb into the Q-Flash usb slot on the mobo(normally near the q-flash button) **EDIT**(Noticed on the Vision D mobo the q-flash isnt by the usb ports) - Press the Q-Flash button and you should see a small light by the button start flashing fast (not as fast as you might think) - Then it might take a minute or two and you should then notice the power supply start up and the mobo light up and that means the q-flash bios update is underway - Give it some time as this could take somewhere from 5-15m depending - Once its finished it will automatically shut off on its own at which point the mobo is on the bios needed and its ready for Ryzen 5000 series

not the first/only, by a longshot. but the real issue (for creative workloads) is that it's B550 - other boards with TB3 (e.g., AsRock Creator, Arous Master) are X570 and aren't hobbled by limited pcie connectivity. plus Creator has 10GBe. Pretty board, though.
@Lollokowns

I'd say it's a niche board. Mine is on order with my new ryzen cpu because I only want the tb3 ports. I for example don't need more pcie connectivity than what I'm getting with this board. The only thing that makes this board a contender for creators is TB3. No 2.5 or 10g, lan. I have a qnap 60tB nas that holds all my 4K content but i do all my editing from internal Sata drives, the Nas is just for storing old content and backup so TB is not that important. Plus Nas units with 6 hard drives make a lot of noise so i dont like to keep it near my computer, TB limits the distance you can be from the computer. 2.5 or 10g lan lets me keep the nas in a totally different room and still get great speed for transferring files. I live in an RV and do all my content creation for my RV channel in the RV so i have to really think this stuff out, weight and space are critical issues. I think i will go for the board you build in your other video which is how i found your channel. Thanks for making content like this for creators. Larry

Awesome review. As a person who’s in the market for these boards, it’s really helpful. But man.. That poor little Zenit-EM... :D I know it looks cool with exposed mirror, and I know they are dirt cheap these days, but please, have some dignity and spare that camera from collecting dust if it still works. Chances are, exponometer does not work already, that thing does not like to be exposed to bright light over long periods of time, but mechanics should work fine, and you can do some film photography with this camera no problem. Thing is, it’s hard to clean focusing screen next to the mirror without damaging it, and dusty shutter does not help either, hence keeping dust outside really matters. Yes is know it gives that hipster looks and whatnot. But for anyone who knows what it is, actual creativity with that camera associates with using it as a camera instead of using it as decoration. I mean, if you really want it that way, just cover the hole. After all, this camera might be older than a lot of people here, so it does not deserve that. It comes from an era when people really cared a lot about their equipment, and I believe this attitude is what we desperately need these days on global scale.

NOTE! A new Gigabyte "Vision D-P" has been posted on Gigabyte's website in the past couple of weeks. I learned the hard way why I wish I waited for this "D-P". The regular "D" version does not support a motherboard header for a USB Type C 3.2 gen 1 (10 Gb/s) front-panel connector but the "D-P" now does. If you buy a modern case with such a connector, you'll notice the required header is unlike any other USB header. I was just building a new system with this Vision "D" board and my NZXT 510i Elite case when I noticed I could not plug in its front panel USB Type C cable anywhere. I'll use the rear panel connector instead which is gen 2 (20Gb/s), but such a shame to have a type "C" port on front that doesn't work. The other major update to this "D-P" board is that it has twin 2.5Gb/s LAN connectors instead of 1Gb/s like the "D" version. Otherwise, this MB is really amazing if you are OK with the limitation of the B550 chipset vs. the X570. I predict Gigabyte will introduce a creators version of the the 570 given the popularity of this board. Can't wait to see it!

@@theTechNotice It is historically sexual but also used politically to describe the atom bomb in the 50s: "The word "bang" is slang for "sexual intercourse". Hence the phrase "bang for the buck" has the slang meaning of "sexual intercourse for money". As a result, the use of this phrase, including a variety of adjectives preceding the word bang, to supposedly describe a subsequent action, has been deemed extremely offensive by some. This interpretation led to a formal request made to the educational arm of a major IT corporation to not have any of their instructors use this phrase. In 2001, author Matthew L. Stone wrote that the phrase "has been overused almost to the point of becoming meaningless".[11] In her 2010 book The Trouble with Thinking, Lauren Powers wrote that whenever she hears the cliché "bigger bang for the buck", she becomes "distracted" by the phrase's history and cannot continue paying attention to the speaker's words.[10]" - this is an extract from Wikipedia.

I just stumbled upon this main board, and I'm quite certain this is what I will settle with! My current setup is an (i6800k, X99A SLi Plus, 128GB 3200, Evo 970+ m.2, GTX1080). Still serves me well, just don't like the boot time (X99 is known for that). I have built many systems over the years, and this would be the first time considering a business chipset. I have come the the conclusion that I really don't have care for RGB, and all the extra crap the 'gamer' or enthusiast chipsets add. Mostly, because of quirks that come with them. Often times I have choose them because I was chasing after a specific feature, that usually the lower class boards don't have. I have never had a system completely quirk free, there was always a compromise of some sort. The TB3 and connectivity is what takes me to this board. Also, being a B550, it should be without the bull$*$& quirks, and be a solid production/content creation runner, which is precisely what I am aiming for. Some casual gaming, but content creation is more important. The Quadro QVL tests are a good sign to me. The other factor is fanless chipset design. Been there with mobos and chipset fans, don't like em. I can also dig the minimalist design, would be a perfect match for my Genome II 'Storm Trooper' colour schemed case the i6800k build currently resides in. Sure, the PCIe GPU and M.2 lanes are less then the other chipsets, but I reckon I really only need one solid GPU, and 4.0 M.2 drive, esp given the TB3 connectivity. The 2nd M.2 being 3.0x is fine enough for secondary storage. I'd love if one of the ethernet ports was 10G, but again TB3 takes care of that. Don't need it for internet, but rather to handle the bandwidth of my IP security cams. This is also the first time in a long time, that I will again be leaning towards a workstation GPU rather then a gaming GPU. I really do reckon this mobo hits the sweet spot of what I am looking for, without paying for the extra crap I don't need. I really was considering the sTRX40 TR CPUs, but having been down the high TDP road before, I rather compromise PCIe lanes for less TDP. Quad channel memory setups are given up as well though... That really is the one thing that remains on my mind... Though I likely will settle for this mobo and a 5950X. I do reckon that is the best bang for buck for creators as of this time. Much thanks for sharing mate! As a side note, it is also nice this has an old school RS232 comm port header, as I still need that teheheh

I'm consistently getting much better CPU and GPU performance out of my Gigabyte Vision D vs. my MSI X570 Unify with my 5900X. Both set to -30 curve fit on all cores with PBO disabled (works amazingly well vs. a straight overclock). E.g., my Cinibench R23 is 23,500 vs. 22,300. My CPU-Z multi-core is ~10,205 vs. 9885. My overall Passmark CPU rating is 43,504 vs. 42,305. My single thread is also slightly better on the Vision D with a Passmark score of 3714 vs 3662. The 3714 score is right behind the new 11900k score posted on Passmark.
@nicholash8021
3 жыл бұрын
Forgot to mention that my Passmark 3D rating with my Vision D board and a Radeon 6800 Red Dragon is around 25,523 (just ahead of the 3090 top score) vs. only 23,450 on the MSI X570 Unify board. Overall I feel like the 550 is running slightly lower baseline voltages and runs about 5C cooler on average with the same exact AIO. It's almost like the -30 is closer to a -40 curve relatively speaking. I'll have to do more testing to get some exact voltages, but the CPU definitely runs hotter on the Unify board with the same adjustments and default. The curve-fit feature is incredible. You get better sing and multi-core without the extra heat.

Just built a comp for myself with this mobo and 5950x and 3090. Only other option with TB I found was Asrock X570 creator which where I am costs 2.5 times more than this Vision D. One thing that annoys me is that there is no socket on the mobo for front panel USB-C . The shop where I ordered it from flashed the BIOS for me but as far as I know, it has function to update BIOS without CPU

BINGO! Got my Vision D on Wednesday - was DOA. It went back, replacement arrives Sunday. Migrating off an ASRock X570 board that *supposedly* supports Thunderbolt but always had quirky things happen. Hang Promise RAID arrays off the machines. Looking forward to getting this board up and running.

Interesting discovery - the replacement board arrived today and it behaved exactly the same as Wednesday's board. So, couldn't be a second DOA - very unlikely. In the end, we thought "Maybe the PSU just can't provide the power needed?" even though we were using a Corsair 1200W supply. Picked up an EVGA PSU and bingo, board worked. So, careful if you are using an older PSU - may not have enough power for the CPU on the B550 board.

Heard about this board just recently. Planning on making a 5950x build, and I always thought you *had* to go with x570. But what if I wanted to run 3 or 4 SSDs? Would this board allow me to run them at their full/max speed? Could this board handle a beefy GPU like the RTX 3090? (noob here) Also, you could do a better job matching your cameras - your side view camera seemed brighter and more saturated. I'm not sure I agree with other people on flipping your top down view tho - this works for me. But I see you're getting traction - good job!

Love the look of this m/b, but why it is not for "gaming" what are the downsides, or even why should you go for x570 instead of b550 chipset. For example why not get this instead of asus x570 Pro or x570-f?

So, it's 'not made for gaming' doesn't mean it's bad at gaming. What this motherboard is made for is creators and the TB3 ports and the nice design and thats why it costs more than some x570 gaming boards. So it will do very good at gaming it's just probably not a 'wise' purchase if you want the best performance gaming board for your money. But if you have the money and like the design it will do a very good job at gaming. :) Hope this makes sense ;)

@@theTechNotice I do not. I only know of it. But to my knowledge, it does not require an adapter, as someone else mentioned. That's the first I've heard of that for that particular board. Have watched plenty of videos about it (from reputable sources like BitWit and Jay), and no one's mentioned an adapter. There is an ATX variant of the "same" board that does NOT supposedly natively support TB3. That may be what they're referring to. But no, I do not have any personal experience with the board, I just know that it is SUPPOSED to, so it's possible I'm missing something. Thanks for the reply.

The Phantom has the thunderbolt connector 5 pin. In the specs it shows it can then connect with their asrock thunderbolt AIC R2 card. The gigabyte boards have thunderbolt headers to connect the Alpine ridge card. Both are PCIe cards with connectors. I might be wrong but I think I'm right 😂.
