I've been recently binge reading Hilary Mantel's trilogy, WolfHall, Bring up the Bodies and the Mirror and the Light. I can't believe Mantel died. She was so talented and had so much more to give.
@EricKarlAnderson

I almost talked about Mantel's trilogy because it's brilliant but initially I found it hard work/difficult to get into so wouldn't call them exactly binge-worthy. However, obviously I recommend them as worth while reading experiences because they are so moving and intelligent. So sad we've lost a great writer - one of the best.

I am just finishing up Wolf Hall trilogy re read. It makes me happy / sad that we had Hilary Mantel and have now lost her, but her books are here forever. Wolf Hall makes me want to re read The Autobiography of Henry the Viii (with notes by his fool Will Sommer) by Margaret George, but I’m into the MayFair Witches . I Love a good binge.

I get that feeling from Donna Tartt books. I'd give anything to read "The Goldfinch" again for the first time because when a book sweeps you away like that, it is just magical. 🥰🥰🥰

Thanks for an interesting video. I absolutely love the Lucy Barton series. The Olive Kitteridge books are spectacular as well. I appreciate you calling my attention to JCO’s gothic saga. I was looking for a next book of hers to read and had a few false starts. Bellefleur it is! My favorite is We Were the Mulvaneys, even though it made me cry buckets.

I’m on a Ruth Ozeki kick at the moment. I read The Book of Form and Emptinesses In January. Now listening to A Tale For the Time Being. Last year it was Barbara Kingsolver. I read 3 of her books in a row. Demon Copperhead The Lucana The Poisonwood Bible I also read everything Claire Keegan has published. Once I find a writer I “click” with I want to read everything they’ve written. 🍀👋☘️📕📖☕️📚

Love Angela Carter and Madeleine Miller 's writing and devoured everything they have written. Binge read recently Joseph O'Connor's My Father's House, Barbara Kingsolver Demon Copperhead as well as Maggie O'Farrell The Marriage Portrait. All excellent. Hilary Mantel 's Wolf Hall Trilogy and Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials (still going on) are also books I never wanted to finish

What an interesting list! I have the Lucy Barton series and Circe in my TBR list, as well as volumes 5 and 6 of The Arab of the Future (volume 6 just came out in French at the end of 2022!) I absolutely agree with you on the JCO gothic novels, those were an experience to read! The last novel that gave me this feeling of complete immersion was Shrines of Gaiety by Kate Atkinson. I just wanted it to keep going, it was so involving, thrilling, and both very fun and heartbreaking! Sadly, based on the ending, I think it is a stand-alone novel, but I'm still hoping she'll change her mind.

Hi Eric - thanks for this video. One author I recommend to everyone is Tan Twang Eng - The Gift of Rain - The Garden of the Evening Mists Nominated for several prizes and translated into many languages, both are mesmerising books which transport you to another era and another world. I was fortunate to hear him speak at a Cape Town Book Fair many years ago, and it was my highlight for that festival. In May this year his new book - The House of Doors - will be available. I hope you will review it. I would also recommend Still LIfe by Sarah Winman in this category - I just loved it and didn’t want it to end. That was one of your recommendations, if I recall correctly.

Balzac long has been one of my favorite writers. I've read many of his books though there are many more I haven't gotten around to yet. The Black Sheep is one of the latter. My two favorites are Lost Illusions, and Old Goriot, both of which I've read in French and English. As one might expect, he's even better in the original than he is translated. The heights of emotive power he achieves in Goriot is unparalleled.

Have you read the Books of Babel series by Josiah Bancroft? To me those are amazing. I initially had a hard time getting into the first book, but once I did, I got sucked in and swept away. Very beautiful writing style and so much imagination in the story, as well as great characters. Coincidentally, when I just googled the author I found this quotation from Madeline MIller who you included in your list (although I must admit I DNF'ed Circe): “Josiah Bancroft is a magician. His books are that rare alchemy: gracefully written, deliriously imaginative, action-packed, warm, witty, and thought-provoking. I can’t wait for more.”

I've enjoyed 5 of Edmund White's autobiographical books. I found "A Boy's Own Story" to be intentionally difficult and even angry. You should include "City Boy" in this group, it's good. "Inside a Pearl" was a big disappointment.
