7:22 I don't understand why you and other KZitemrs consistently mention that microphone has an issue when a dynamic mic requires you to speak up close for sound capture. The primary feature and the whole purpose of a dynamic microphone is that it only captures vocals effectively when used in very close proximity to the capsule. If a dynamic microphone picks up sound from even 3 foots away, it is no longer functioning as a dynamic microphone, but rather may be considered a toy for kids or could be categorized as a condenser microphone with a cardioid pattern. I understand that these are very affordable products, but why do companies label them as dynamic microphones if they don't function like the real deal or come close to their intended purpose? It seems like the true meaning of "dynamic" has been compromised by these lower-tier microphone manufacturers. What's disheartening is that professional audio experts like you, sir, aren't addressing this issue. Instead, all KZitemrs in the audio niche seem to overlook it, possibly due to receiving these products for free or creating enticing videos to encourage people to purchase using their affiliate links. I love your videos and would appreciate your feedback on my perspective.
@TekToyzGaming
10 ай бұрын
Thanks for your perspective on this. These are the views that really foster conversation and growth. You make a couple of good points and do appear to have some insight on this topic. An 'issue' with fall-off is not the right description, it's just the way they're physically built and not what the use case is intended for. You are correct Companies 'label' them as dynamic because that's just the way the hardware is built internally - its just in the way it converts sound into electrical signals. For the am8 or pd200x there isn't a different technology inside. They still use electromagnetism to convert sound vibrations. Whether the quality and material of the build is not as exotic or meticulous as higher end dynamic mics, this does not make them any less 'dynamic' as that refers to the technology and not the quality. That means a dynamic function is their intended purpose. A transmission in a Bugatti and in a Honda Civic is still transmission tech, though one is obviously lower tier. With that said, there is really no 'issue' that is not being addressed here. So don't be disheartened. If there is some work-around dynamic technology that lower-tier manufactures are using? Please let us know if there is. What microphone tech do you use on your channel? Asking as I checked some of your recent videos and cannot distinguish. It sounds like you're using a shotgun mic or a laptop internal mic. Apologies, but it doesn't sound very good. I would think your audio is up to spec with your level of insights on audio tech.

The highs in the PD200X are a bit much. Sometimes it comes across like a sharp knife, almost hurting my ears - I have a feeling I'd get ear fatigue sooner listening to PD200X than to AM8. This extra brigthness gives it more airiness/presence though, the AM8 sounds much more in your face (probably can be fixed with positioning it further away slightly). Hard to decide, but I'd go with the AM8 for sound, and the silent, capacitive buttons, and requiring less gain are also a plus for me (people with cheaper audio interface can run it through XLR with less preamp noise). Edit: forgot to add, that both mics seem to open up via XLR, so I'd only run them through USB-C if absolutely have no other option.
@TekToyzGaming
10 ай бұрын
Thanks for that. This is good insight for others to see. For both I end up subduing the high ends in post, just a little more on the pd200x. I think I just really like that airiness/presence a lot. If they make a version of it with touch capacitive buttons I will be first to market on it. Or if they make a smaller am8 with a shock mount same reaction.
