I would definitely agree. It certainly won't be training you to win Mr Olympia, but I think it'll be great for 90% of people. Shoot, I've been using a basic CAP rack for the past year and only now looking to upgrade to something with a cable system. Leaning towards one of the Mikolo models right now, either the M3 Smith machine model or the K6 Power rack model. Still unsure whether I want the smith.

I personally always work outside my rack. I have a 6 post PR-5000 w/Ares. I use REP’s safety spotter arms for all my work off the front of the rack. I agree 100% on your opinion weather or not to go budget or not. I think it’s super important to know if you are going to use the equipment. Most home fitness equipment just becomes a cloths line after the newness wears off. If you are a person who is going to use the equipment, if you go budget you will very soon outgrow it and want something better and more functional. I’m of the opinion of “buy once, cry once”. Do it right the first time. Thanks so much for all the great information.

This looks like a decent choice for a starter rack. I know you can never compare prices of the past, but my $200 REP PR-1050 starter rack I got new in 2019 and still used daily by my buddy has incredible price to value. Trying a starter rack for a few years and then upgrading to your forever rack when you get strong enough that you outgrow it was a great strategy, at least for me.

Seems like a descent starting point/budget rack. If you are trying to decide on building a home gym or are building a cost friendly gym I think this rack gives you a lot of versatility. I wouldn’t trust this rack for serious power lifters of stongman but for most beginner lifters this is money.

All the Chinese racks I’ve seen never have a high enough lat pulldown. However, I’ve seen that Jacked up fitness has a “lat extender” for there pulley system that looks promising. Hopefully you can review that one in the future.

@@NoFate247 yes I’ve seen the Jacked up fitness racks on Facebook. They come in different models and the cheapest one they offer is $1999.00 which is a plate loaded system. It’s a smith machine as well. It’s not really a “budget” option though but they do offer an attachment for the functional trainer that extends the pulleys upwards and outwards. Looks interesting. However I think I’m going to take your advise and buy the better rack which will probably be the Rep 5000 Athena or an Inspire SCS system. Still debating on the two.
@GarageGymLifeMedia

Great review Jonathan! I haven’t tried this rack myself but based on specs I agree with your assessment of this rack not being a great option for lifting over 400lbs. Plus 2x2 racks don’t have as many attachments on the market so if you get this you’re essentially stuck with attachments that come with this rack. Decent starter rack but definitely should be upgraded as soon as possible.
@NoFate247
6 ай бұрын
And that's the crux of the issue. You spend $600 which is a "deal" but then already are looking to upgrade it ASAP. I prefer to see people wait and get the rack they really want, assuming they know the home gym life is for them
@GarageGymLifeMedia
6 ай бұрын
@@NoFate247 yeah at the same time, I understand the buy and upgrade mentality because that's how I came up. When you first start out, especially if you've been training at a public gym like I was before I set off on my home gym journey, you tend to want equipment that's similar to what you had at the public gym. Somebody who starts their path like EliteFTS founder, Dave Tate, did buys their first piece of home gym equipment because they want to be able to conveniently train a movement more times than they can get to a public or semi private gym. And CrossFitters who are setting up for at home WODs basically get whatever they need for that year's Open and whatever has the most crossover. But you and I both know that over time our interests and sometimes leverages change as we gain or lose weight so what fit perfectly in the beginning may not still be ideal five or ten years later. So I say, if you're not sure if this is for you, grab an economical rack for the house and go with it. Just bear in mind that the resale value on something you buy cheap isn't going to be high no matter how "gently used" it is. Good convo as always!
