Little tip. When finding where to put the Sub don't just put it where you like the look place it in all 4 corners testing one at a time then try some others places. If you have a friend or partner to help ask them to come in the room each time and close their eyes and tell you where they think the bass is coming from. You want to get it in a place that makes it impossible to tell where the sub bass is coming from. If you place on the left in front of you and its easy to tell its there then keep trying. Once you have it in a place that makes it impossible to judge where the bass is coming from then you will be getting the best experience possible.

Just set this system up with the Sony AV receiver ( STR-DH790 ) and a set of Micca RB42X which I used as my fronts. Makes an awesome 5.1.2 system and the subwoofer is incredibly powerful. I have it set at about 10 o’clock on the sub and negative 2 in my receiver and it vibrates everything in the living room. For an 8” sub it’s really hard to believe it puts out that much power. Even my installer couldn’t believe the quality of sound for such a low profile set. Great accurate review. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

The nice thing about this system over a soundbar is that you aren’t confined to the width of the soundbar itself. You can make the left, center and right speakers as close or far apart as you want. Mono I don't know why. But then you can do 6 channal. Now we get nifty. Either a 5.1 WAV you can load on something and play Via your AVR or the real cool cat thing is tell it to save each channal to it's own WAV file. Bam you'll know now what comes from each speaker. It numbers the files even. It's 1 threw 6 and 4 onbviously is the sub. I got it to in a messed up way cause it was on an old 90s PC rip the HD Master track of a Blu-Ray. Hello Ealan and fellow audio enthusiast. I'm hoping to get feedback/opinion. I’m a beginner and recently purchased this Klipsch Reference Theatre pack 5.1($350) and the 7.2 Onkyo TX-NR6050 av receiver($430) both on sale from Costco, still in the box. I’m planning to get some bookshelf speakers like the Klipsch R-41M or R-51M to use as my fronts to set up a 5.1.2 system. The other day I noticed this Klipsch Reference Cinema System 5.1.4 with Dolby Atmos on sale for $399 at my local Costco. I’m tempted to get the Cinema pack and return the Theatre pack. Can the Cinema pack be used as a 5.1.2 due to my 7 channel receiver? Also which of these 2 budget setups would you choose/recommend, an actual 5.1.2 from the Theatre pack or the Cinema 5.1.2? Or can we cancel out the Cinema pack’s atmos and use 2 actual height speakers? Lastly, which sub do you think is better, the 8” downward firing or the 10” front firing sub? Thanks in advance, I really enjoy your channel and congrats once again on your recent milestone.
@ealanosborne
2 жыл бұрын
The Cinema pack’s speakers are deceptively large (and the subwoofer is bigger), so if you want bigger, go with that. And if possible, I would go with separate height speakers instead of using the Cinema pack’s upward firing speakers for Atmos effects. They’re okay, but mounting actual speakers up high is far superior, if that fits in your budget.

@@ealanosborne Thanks for your response bro, this channel is freakin awesome. I love your videos Ealan! Good content coverage plus some humor and visual effects along the way! So I do have a question...... So this Theater pack is currently on sale for $350 at Costco and you get the 5 speakers and a 8" sub. I'd have to buy a receiver at about $300 to power it. So the all in cost would be about $650 to get 5.1 surround. I am also looking at the Klipsch Cinema 600 soundbar which is on-sale for $300 right now. This package, from what I can tell, has better front and center speakers (classic Klipsch horn design) built into the soundbar plus it has a larger wireless 10" sub. I can also pair the Cinema 600 soundbar with the wireless Klipsch Surround 3's for about another $250. So the all-in price for the Cinema 600 + Surround 3's would be $550 and this would get me a complete 5.1 theater package. I'm curious what your thoughts are on this Costco 5.1 Theater Pack vs the Klipsch Cinema 600 + wireless Surround 3's? I'm thinking the Cinema 600 + Surround 3's would be a better deal since all the speakers seem to be better plus it has a larger more powerful sub. Plus it's $100 cheaper. I was curious what your thoughts are? Thanks!
@ealanosborne
3 жыл бұрын
Wow! Thanks for the compliments! Here’s the rub - both of those setups will have their pluses and minuses. Yes the theater pack needs a receiver, but good ol’ fashioned wired speakers will last and give you few problems, if any at all. That being said, the Cinema 600’s soundbar speakers’ frequency response goes down to 35Hz, so they are full range, compared to the theater pack’s speakers which only go down to 110Hz, so they’re not as full. And yes, that subwoofer is bigger, so you’ll get amazing low frequency response. But the 8” sub in the theater pack is still so surprisingly powerful. BUT...those Three speakers are wireless, and I have read articles saying they aren’t the most reliable. There is a chance if you get the Threes, you’ll have no issues whatsoever. Cool. But wireless speakers always have more of a chance to do bizarre things. But the convenience of not having to deal with wires with speakers behind you, that is definitely a plus. So you just gotta pick your battles wisely. 😀 I think either setup is a good bet.

I'm not sure if it is possible though. Will the sound be unbalanced? since RP-600M seems to be a pretty powerful speaker.

Astro Tomato One step at a time is what I’ve been doing as well. And that’s actually a great idea, using the front satellites as the eventual height speakers! Since the heights are generally where music and atmospheric/ambient sound effects live in an Atmos system, the RTP satellites are more than capable of handling those types of sounds. Way to think creatively!

Yes, this would be an improvement over a sound bar. But since this Klipsch system is a traditional wired speaker system, you would need an AV receiver to power them. Like a Denon S650h or Yamaha RX-385 or Sony STR-DH590

Are you still happy with the klipsch reference system? What AVR do you feel that would best pair up with this system. Keep in mind I would like to add two maybe four height speaGers (LOL) at a later time. Also Marantz makes slimmer AVR with less watts per channel at a lower cost than the regular Marantz costing over a thousand and higher. Would you recommend a slimline less watt Marantz over a Denon or Yamaha AVR. I want to start with a 5.1 setup then slowly build to a 5.2.2 or 5.2.4 or 7.2.2. Please let me know your thoughts.

An interesting thing I’ve noticed is that manufacturers aren’t selling budget 9 channel receivers anymore (less than $1,000). I got my Onkyo TX-NR787 a few years ago for $499 after watching the price like a hawk, then jumping on it when it went on sale. But all manufacturers have discontinued that tier of receiver. No idea why. But the Denon x3700h is the best/least expensive I could find that was 9 channel, but still costs $1,200. Since you wanna go up to a 5.2.4 or 7.2.2, you’ll need 9 channels eventually, so might as well make that investment up front? There is a Marantz similar to the Denon that costs $1,699. Yikes! But of course that’s gonna be an amazing receiver. I’d stick with the big beefy receivers, as opposed to slim line, since you want to upgrade eventually. If you just wanted to stick with a 5.2.2 with small satellite speakers, a slimline would be fine. My Reference Theater Pack I still thoroughly enjoy. It’s good for me for now. I might upgrade my satellites to some SVS Primes down the line. There’s a chance we might be moving to a larger property 3 years or so from now, at which point I’d want to have a dedicated home theater room. Then I’d upgrade everything slowly. But for now? No need to upgrade my current home theater TOO much more. 😄
