All this talk about chicken patties, breasts, thighs, and legs has made me hungry. Thanks a lot. 😂

😊 I get it...into this morning I had fasted only about 13 hours, but had to go to a grocery store for some graduation party supplies, & I thought this is the wrong place to be for me right now! All the stuff I know I don't want to eat looked more & more enticing the longer I was in there. I got myself an unsweetened tea & my chicken broth, & I will eat some eggs in about another hour, so I totally understand. I'm thinking at least chicken is in a protein food group. ❤️ Seriously, though, it is really good chicken. We wouldn't eat chicken prior to raising it, because we didn't find it appealing, but we really like the homegrown quality chicken we produce from these Cornish Rock Cross Chickens. We'll, now I'm making myself hungry, Doug. Hey, thanks so much for watching & commenting. We appreciate it! God bless y'all, & have a super weekend. We'll upload again on Saturday & Monday.

@@twinoaksfarmpoultry I've mentioned before that I work an afternoon shift. So my wife always has a meal ready around 1 pm. Guess what were having today? You guessed it.. chicken.... lol... Unfortunately, it's not the good quality stuff that you're raising

@@dougroberts3643 Full disclosure from a poultry farmer...our local IGA has a breaded boneless cold case chicken tender option at the deli there, with a honey mustard dipping sauce, & when I can't have our chicken, that's about the only other one I'll eat. With this new food plan, though, I might have to give that one up...not sure the breading or dipping sauce is compatible with the minimally processed concept. Oh, well, my cup doth runneth over with chicken broth & abundant blessings! 😊 God bless y'all, Doug. Chicken for lunch sounds delicious!

Not to mention the food, water, safety and general care you provide. You can just tell that all their needs are being met.

Yes, that was about the perfect temperature! I wish wr could just hold it there until Tuesday. Going to be a tough weekend probably, though, because we're hearing 90's in the forecast for the weekend. 5 days...praying for a good outcome & working for it on the things we can impact! Thanks, Jeff! Thanks for watching & commenting & encouraging! ❤ We greatly appreciate it!

42, down to 35 days. That's a huge savings if they're eating 50lbs of feed a day.

You're right. Great point. Thank you for your input! That's definitely part of the motivation to use the shorter production length if we find we can still gain the size finished bird we want, & we cut out potential flock loss for those added days, too. Thanks, Jeff! Great point. Greatly appreciate your feedback. Thank you for watching & commenting! God bless y'all, & have a great weekend. We'll upload again on Saturday & Monday.

Your insight also made me recall several flocks from last year & previous year that were really finished & ready to go, but we were 4 to 6 days out from their processing appointment, so we just had to keep feeding them & adding bedding& wait & hope they didn't die from sudden death. We figured up, at those times, with feed & bedding, the added days were costing about 45 dollars a day per 100 birds, so it did add up fast with 200 or 300 birds at a time. That was part of our decision to try out a shorter production. Hopefully it works out like we think it will. Yes, great point on the cost savings during production. Thank you again.

I just can't justify raising birds that eat eat eat for their entire 8 weeks of life and get so big they don't easily walk around. It's sickening to me. I'll be soon raising Bresse for my systainable and not sad, unhealthy birds. Mine won't be experiencing "sudden death" or heart attacks or broken legs due to their excessive weight. Sadly, Cornish Cross birds have little flavor to their meat. The whole situation is sad. It's not natural.

Hi, there. This is Melissa from Twin Oaks Farm Poultry/Twin Oaks Family Farm. Thanks for watching & commenting! We appreciate your feedback & opinions. Now it's my turn. I do appreciate your time & effort watching & commenting, but I am going to bluntly state that I disagree with you that our birds are sad & unhealthy. They are not unhealthy. They are also very well taken care of with their specific management needs taken into careful consideration. Furthermore, all livestock have some degree of risk for ailment or injury. You may feel that the level of risk for ailment & injury is exasperated in Cornish Rock Cross Meat Chickens, but I would point out that no species or breed is absolutely exempt from some risk of ailment & injury. With all livestock, & especially in any production agriculture operation (for household consumption or for commercial sales) the best practices with livestock management do focus on both maximizing growth potential across the group while minimizing mortality risk during production in the individuals. I would ask you to consider that you certainly don't have to like or raise Cornish Rock Cross Meat Chickens, but you also don't have to hate on the chicken type itself or the people that raise them. I emphatically disagree with your statement that Cornish Rock Cross Meat Chickens have little flavor to their meat. I would also say if you have experienced Cornish Rock Cross meat that wasn't flavorful or that was fatty, that can be attributed to a management system that didn't work well for them. We very much like the flavor produced in the meat; we like it much better than poultry we've had from other kinds of chickens. We actually have produced Heritage Breed poultry for specific customer requests, & then when those same customers also tried our Cornish Rock Cross poultry, they switched from Heritage Breeds meat to Cornish Rock Cross meat. We have countless documented testimony from clients stating that the poultry we produce from Cornish Rock Cross Meat Chickens here is the best poultry they've ever eaten. So, that's another perspective on the same topic. Incidentally, we refuse to raise Cornish Rock Cross Meat Chickens for 8 weeks or even 7 weeks. We prefer a 6 week production, & we are evaluating 5 week production lengths this year. Also, Cornish Rock Cross "eat eat eat" for all their weeks b/c they grow & grow & grow...they eat to grow, & they need the energy. It will take Bresse over twice as much time to finish, & they require some very specialized start, grow, & finish practices as well. We'll raise 1650 birds in 6 flocks on this system this calendar year. Both our first flocks of this calendar year are sellout flocks on pre-ordered reservations, so bottom line is there are people like you who don't like Cornish Rock Cross poultry, & there are alot of people that do like the Cornish Rock Cross poultry...so, it's opinions, everyone has 'em, yours isn't the only one that matters, & it's ok if we have different ones. We do raise our chickens with alot of care. Frankly, I've seen alot sadder livestock operations that included purebred species & breeds, & these chickens as a type really aren't unnatural...they're hybridized from selective breeding that emphasized expression of a very specific combination of traits. The modern Bresse Chickens also are somewhat hybridized, definitely not to the extent of Cornish Rock Cross, but they are slightly hybridized. Best thing about all of it is if you don't like the meat produced from one kind of chicken or you don't like raising them, as you pointed out, there are other options as alternatives, such as the Bresse. We hope you have great success with them! I've heard positive reviews from people about raising Bresse & on the meat produced from them. Best of luck! Just as we spent alot of time & care researching & practicing how to take good care of Cornish Rock Cross Meat Chickens, & we are constantly striving to learn how to implement improvements, I'm sure perfecting management of modern Bresse Chickens for poultry production is a craft that takes time & practice. Thanks for watching! Have a great weekend, & God bless you!

After watching videos here, from Twin Oaks Family Farm, you can't deny that they do take very good care of their birds. Much, much better than what we all saw on that "Food Inc." documentary, and at other commercial farms. And to put it in other terms, there sure as hud ain't nothin' natural about a chihuahua neither, but they still have their place. 😆 I'm planning on getting some American Breese chickens in the future as well. Good luck with yours.
