Almost as good as the Argons from Modhouse in comfort? thats very high praise, because the Argons from Modhouse are the most comfortable headphones I've ever put on my head. I have a more mountain shaped head, so normal headbands create an awful hotspot on my head, I couldn't wear the Edition XS from Hifiman for more than 2 hours, so I've been looking for headphones with a strap design, I think I've found it.

How do they compare to the Focal Elegias sound wise? They Both meet my criteria of being closed back and under $500 lol.
@MasterMarslander
2 жыл бұрын
Excellent question. Unfortunately I don't have Elegias to compare directly with. My guess is that the Focals lead to a slightly warmer signature, as I believe the Elegias are often referred to as a pretty "smooth" sound. I can only guess though.

Possibly a dumb question- would these be appropriate to pair with a Dac to CD and vintage amp( pioneer, Sansui, marantz) ? Or, should they primarily be used with headphone dac/amp for digital ?

@djb5864 I don't see any reason they wouldn't work on a vintage system. I think it should do just fine.

Yes, Modhouse Argons. If you go with the T50 Argons, I recommend the protein pads and deer skin strap. If you go with the T60 Argon grab the new Xeon pads and baffle upgrade. Did a whole highlight on that upgrade, absolutely worth it. Dear skin strap for the T60s too.

Master M, you've done a review on Meze 99 closed a while ago (which I use/changed the earpads and cable), would it be worth the 1,000$ (CND) to buy these DC AC X as a closed upgrade headphone (sound & comfort?
@MasterMarslander
Жыл бұрын
The Meze 99s have a more relaxed and warm sound signature than the Aeon Closed X. The Aeon is a more analytical sound over all, and provides more resolution and speed than the Meze 99. I do think that the Aeon is a more comfortable headphone than the Meze 99 as well. All that being said, I can't tell you if it is enough of an improvement to justify the cost - that is going to have to be up to you and what you're comfortable with spending. They are both exceptionally good headphones.

@MasterMarslander

Sort of depends on what ypu want from your gaming experience. If you want a very immersive and cinematic experience with grand and spacious sound, I think you could be better off with something like an Argon. If you want to be competitive, sacrifice some of the "fun" to have those highly detailed footsteps, then I think the Aeon could preform pretty well for that. Make sure you have a dedicated amplifier though.

Techno and EDM sound energetic and fast with the Aeon Closed X, but if you want more hard-hitting bass lines, then maybe look into something like the Hifiman R9 or Beyerdynamic DT1770.

@gautierbertin2726 I've heard mixed opinions on the Sundara Closed, but never tried them myself. I've never tried the TH610 either, but high-end Fostex stuff is pretty dang solid. You should also look at the Meze 99 for a warm, fun, and relaxed sound.

Would you recommend this over the Hifiman XS, DT 1990 Pro?
@MasterMarslander
2 жыл бұрын
Well, first thing to note is that both the Hifiman Edition XS and DT 1990 are open back headphones - That alone means they are doing to offer a very different listening experience compared to the Aeons. The DT 1990 is well known for being a very analytical headphone, so there might be some similarities between the 1990's sound signature and that of the Aeon. I can only speculate though, as I do not own 1990s or the Edition XS.

@@soulfulfool The Verite C is also a far cry from the 6XX's smooth FR. However, I agree that the overall tonal balance has a similar style to the 6XX's and that the technical abilities of the Verite are a lot better, but I still think the 6XX is the more pleasant and better tuned headphone.

How are these when it comes to bass? Like for example, compared to the HE-R9s or Modhouse. Percentage wise is it like 80% the bass, 60%? I like rumble in my bass that makes my headphones vibrate lol so if not stock, can these be EQed for that result?
@MasterMarslander
Жыл бұрын
Aeon bass is very even and natural, hardly emphasized at all. They're a neutral, reference kind of sound. Argons have more bass extension and hit harder, so maybe 40% more bass. R9 is a bass canon murder machine, so they're probably more like 70% more bass. We're being very scientific in here!

Each headphone is excellent and each will shine better in different circumstances. Aeon Closed X is a great monitoring headphone. T60 Argon is a great musical headphone. R9 is a great bombastic headphone. If I HAD to choose one it would be the T60 Argon because it has become my daily driver and because of how special and boutique it is.

I cant say I've ever attempted such a setup. They are planar headphones and as such are generally more difficult to drive than most dynamic driver headphones. Playing them off my phone, for example, doesn't yield very good results without a dedicated amplifier.
