Those Civivi knives are so compelling in quality and design. I’m very budget conscience, and the second label market coming from the East is killing it across so many metrics. Thanks for the show and tell!

I think that Civivi is the King of affordable damascus steel folders. Dare I say it The King of damascus steel folding knifes all together.. Almost all of their model knifes (and they're churning new ones at blistering speed) has a damascus steel option for a relatively small price increase.. I'm just in the process of deciding whether to buy the Elementum 2 in damascus or their cool Baby Banter. Elementum has that wavy type of damas while the Banter comes with the small circular pattern damascus blade.. I'll probably get both of them eventually since I love the damascus steel knifes. Unfortunately some of the most beautiful you can get are way out of my league with knifes reaching 500 - 1500$.. That being said one of the most beautiful I've seen is The James Brand Carter in damasteel. Absolute stunner and it's not too expensive, around 280$. Mind you I buy knifes worth around 50-60$ and this Elementum/Baby Banter will be my most expensive purchase to date, costing around 100$.

Great video! You are so talented at speaking and informing. I've been carrying a lefty basketweave large 21 for about 6 months now. When I heard they would be no more, I bought up several CR's but only one damascus due to trouble finding them. I would do anything for a lefty damascus with the regular non inlaid handle!!!!!

An excellent comparison of the various types of Damascus and Damasteel EDC's, DCA! I lean towards the "budget" end of EDC's, and found a beautiful Damascus 3" knife by a small company called QYGMGS. The model I have is around $45, and is quite solid and robust for a 3" folder. The Damascus blade is quite nice, and has the cladding visible on the spine as you mentioned on some other brands. The blade is razor sharp, and though I haven't tested the edge retention yet, the clip point blade spine thickness is substantial all the way out to the point, which makes the point robust. The rosewood handles are quite nice as well, as is the steel bolsters that show a complimentary pattern to the blade. It also came with a leather belt pouch. Overall, a very well-made knife for under $50.

@@SuperPlastered Gee, why didn't I think of that? FYI, the comment was about edge durability which I find is lower than expected. I've got many, many hundreds of $ and at least a few hundred hours spent sharpening my knives and many friends-n-family knives. I know how and have the equipment to sharpen and have even done a fair bit of reprofiling and grinding to fix damaged knives and made a few. As far as the Jerry Moen Mongoose is concerned; it's a beautifully executed knife, but at that price-point, the liner lock comes off as being a little bit cheap. I would expect a frame lock at the least for that kind of money, although some sort of axis lock would be a bit more discrete.
