This is an excellent commentary on humanity and how we judge and are given to group think. What is great is that this SHOWS this and does not TELL with preaching and insulting speeches (Chibnall).

This is the bottle episode for the season, where they save on the budget when they might've gone over it in other episodes. Oftentimes the bottle episode really shines like this one. The hostess noticed The Doctor got the monster to say "Allons-y" first as he had earlier said to the hostess, which is how she figured out the monster was still in the woman.

You were right in that this episode was very thought provoking. I think the hostess sacrificed herself for all of them, not just the Doctor. This episode feels like a study on how fast we can shed our civility when faced with a horrifying unknown. Will the danger of losing our lives cause us to revert to animal instincts to survive? How many people are we willing to throw under the bus, or out of the bus as it were, to be the one that escapes in the end? You saw how fast they all tried to deny that they went as far as they did. Also, being in that kind of situation seemed to magnify the worst parts of their characters, except for the hostess. For myself, I would like to think that I would be able to literally sacrifice my life for others, but could I actually do it when presented with the opportunity? I may never know. The Donna episodes are all really good. She's such a wonderful character to write for. As for Rose...spoilers.

It’s actually mad how scary and sinister this episode is and at the end of the day the villain doesn’t really actually do anything, she just sits there for the most of the episode copying them

There is no ‘she’ as the character ‘Sky’ was possessed by the villain. That’s what makes this episode stand out so much, one of the few where we never see the villain, we don’t know where it’s from or what it’s purpose is and we never get any answers about it. Known as ‘the midnight entity’ all we know is that it resides on the surface of planet midnight

The Doctor normally see's the human race as this beautiful thing. Him watching regular humans become monsters with almost no effort really shook him to the core. That look he gives at the end sells it

This is a great episode that explores human response to fear and pressure. It was one of my favourite episodes, but recently I have experienced being trapped in a flooding room with several other people. And now it’s my favourite, it captures claustrophobia and this human “insanity” perfectly

This episode reminds me of some of the Twilight Zone (1959 - 1964) episodes which had some psychological based episodes that could be terrifying and when one thought about them could be very disturbing. If you haven't seen it watch Twilight Zone (1963) season 5 episode 3 "Nightmare At 20,000 Feet." This is an psychological story in a confined space.

Really great episode and very intense also the first time in New Who that the TARDIS is absent for this story. The old man professor is the real life son of a former Doctor Who actor Patrick Troughton who played The Second Doctor from 1966-1969 he has also appeared once in Doctor Who before as King Peladon in a Third Doctor story.

I think the worst thing about this episode is that you try to explain the obvious, keep calm and common sense in the midst of INSANITY and the fact that a large part of humanity was represented in what would actually happen in a catastrophe situation: hysterical, impulsive and on the verge of murder... or too scared to stop the barbarity. And the altruism of the hostess. And in the midst of that, the Doctor... without a human to step in and give him a safeguard. Who he is? where did it come from? Why should I trust him? it's usually the companion who mediates and has the role of calming things down because "he has a real person with him" or speaks so confidently about his character that you can give him the benefit of the doubt(doesn't always work btw). Perfect episode, wonderful reaction and comments at the end. And get ready because from here to the season's finale... well, you'll see💙

I love this episode. Easily one of my faves. But there are others coming that I love even more. The behind-the-scenes Confidential episode will make you even more impressed. The amount of work that went into this seemingly simple episode is amazing. The acting is phenomenal, especially by Lesley Sharp, who had a very difficult job. That moment when the Doctor realizes he's lost control and takes a step back is interesting. His mouth and arrogance got him into trouble for real this time.

One of the creepiest episodes ever! Mostly, but not only, because we never find out, who or WHAT that actually was! But also because of the group dynamics. Yeah...that's actually the creepiest shit about it. And unfortunately the realest as well

The way I always took it - though I don't think the writer meant it this way - is that it was not a physical but psychic phenomena. First, the Doctor shuts off the sensory overload, thus enabling people to think. He then goes into the cockpit and insists on the screen being raised which then allowed the young man to see a glint in the landscape which sets his imagination going. This leads onto a chain reaction of people making their worst fears come to life as a sort of telepathic terror goes around. Mrs. Silvestri was obviously imagining her ex-partners 'revenge', the young driver might have destroyed the cockpit himself through fear, everyone else then fed off each others fears and manifested a 'monster' which did not actually exist in a physical form.

It's funny, the people that don't like David Tennant's Doctor mostly seem to complain that he is "too human." Then they also complain he is too emotional, too shouty, too manic, etc... all of which suggest to me that he is ... not human... He often is trying to fit in with the humans, as suggested by dialogue in several episodes.

9:20 minutes in your reaction and I've seen already the most shocked face ever! Going from laughing into shock, that's an accomplish Doctor Who writers posses. Anyway, this episode got one of the teenage girls next door, hooked into Doctor Who, as we were watching it, when she dropped by. Great reaction and enjoy your well deserved vacation.

I love this one. Despite being in one spot and not having a lot of traditional "action" happening, it's one of those episodes that I loved the more times I've watched it. There's a lot to get out of it. You can pay more attention to different characters each time you see it and get even more out of them and their personalities. I was waiting for you to "get" it and knew you'd like it as soon as you did. It really does start as kind of irritating until you get what's going on and what they're trying to convey. I laughed when you jokingly suggested throwing someone out of the train before the characters even suggested it and before they got to how messed up that is. 😂 We all like to think we wouldn't act like any of these people, but in truth most of us probably would in some way or another. When we get scared we're irrational.

People say this is one of the most unsettling and one of the scariest eps of Doctor Who. Personally for me it's rather low on the list (mostly because I am claustrophobic and this episode was not a big help lol). oh yeah, enjoy your vacation!

This is the best episode of Series 4, which says a lot since Series 4 has a lot of extremelly strong episodes. The part that scares me most about this episode is that we criticise these people, but we will react exactly like this if we will be put in this situation.
