This is it. The St. John Bakery closed their shop in the Maltby Street Market during the summer which made me very sad. Luckily, they made the deal with Neil’s Yard and opened a shiny new bakery there in September (2018).
I didn’t need an invitation and decided to visit as soon as possible.
St. John Bakery makes European style doughnuts. No hole, dusted in sugar and generously filled with cream or jam. I already tried similar doughnuts made by Bread Ahead Bakery during my visit to the Borough Market. Some of my friends told me that St John doughnuts are even better.
I went for the best seller, the Vanilla Custard Doughnut for £2.8. The doughnut was perfect. Fluffy, chewy and with lots of rich Vanilla flavor. I ended up buying two more.
The Covent Garden area in London was missing some good quality doughnuts for some time and I believe that bringing St John Bakery to the Neil’s Yard will enrich this community greatly.
But were these doughnuts better than ones from Bread Ahead? You will have to watch the video to find out 😎
