Unfortunately just sharing my workflow which I have a ton of experience with. I can’t speak from experience whether the mobile exports will provide the same quality on instagram since I don’t use that flow and haven’t tested it in real world scenarios. I gotta get a test IG profile to see final results. I’ve had mixed results with going directly from quik but I have heard export settings options are in the works. 👍🏻

Thank you for explaining what happens when putting GoPro video onto Instagram, explaining why quality reduces and how it can be improved. Many GoPro users don’t have Da Vinci or Adobe Premiere on PC, some of us only use an iPad or iPhone with basic apps like GoPro Quik. I appreciate that as you are employed as Creative Director of GoPro you want to promote their product but you never use Quik in any of your tutorials. Is this because you have no confidence in the app or you simply cannot make it your Company’s main app work? It would be really useful if you could suggest how to improve output from Quik to Instagram (or KZitem), or even produce future tutorials using Quik.
@abekislevitz

I think you maybe saw my other reply, but there are no options for export on quik so there’s really nothing to run through. In premiere it’s a very complicated export process so there’s more to explain, and many creators that want more control are using it!

Nice vid thanks! I am trying to export 5.3k 60fps for KZitem. I have 2 problems: 1. In some frames video completely breaks and gets very pixelated ( some kind of render export problem I guess ) 2. The rendering of the skies and gradients is way worse than in original footage. My questions is what are the best settings to export 5.3k 60fps video for KZitem ?

I read somewhere that the maximum file size is 20mb for instagram so I always export just below that. But also doesn't make sense because then a 5 sec video will have high VBR and a long video will have low VBR. Been trying out a bunch of things.... But in the end I feel like it's all the same. One thing though which I realized is that winter videos most of the time have 3 simple elements. Snow/sky/subject, which would explain why winter always looks so crisp. Not so much info to compress. Thanks for the info!

We also just found that hidden "quality upload" button on the app. Sneaky! The other info on noise reduction and sequence settings matching the export also super helpful. Thank you Abe!! I'd be really curious to know if Instagram has various tiers where depending on the length of the video, certain file sizes experience more compression than others. In any event though, makes a lot of sense that shorter videos might be able to have the max bit rate & quality unless all videos experience the same compression. I'm curious!

Thank you! Other videos just state the "Instagram Video Format" but just say it without an explanation. The denoising thing sounds very useful. I will definitely try this out! I have 2 questions if you may: - If I want to upload Reels, is it better to upload at 1080x1920 or a Larger Resolution. I'm able to upload videos at a higher resolution as long as it keeps the aspect ratio (I just export "From Source"). Since instagram is going to compress the video anyway 1080x1920 or not, I would think might as well input a larger file so that it still keeps the detail. Do you recommend this? - Same goes for the bitrate??? The "Instagram Video Format" says 3.5Mbps but you find it better uploading between 25 and 50Mbps. Do you think maybe as long as it falls under a certain GB that the larger the better? Thank you!!!

It seems that Instagram does not give option to post video as "post" anymore, only as reel... and hashtags on reels don't work really well. Is video as "post" finished now? Can't find that info anywhere. Will it be shared as post(IGTV?) if it's more than one minute long?

Hello. I'm reaching out here again because I'm at my wits' end. I use a GoPro 11 camera primarily for my bike trips. I shoot videos vertically as I intend to upload them on Instagram. All the videos look great on my phone or in the Quick app. I record in 2.7k 60fps or 4k60fps. However, when I upload the footage to Instagram, the video is completely ruined. It doesn't matter how I export the video, whether in HD, FHD, 2k, or 4k. Reels always end up being of poor quality. Additionally, when I record with my phone in 4k 30fps, those videos look good on Instagram as well. Please help, as I'm about to throw this camera in the trash.

@@abekislevitz I think I'm confused. So you would do the lens correction first (during the edit assemble phase), then export (at H264 at what bit rate?), then colour and denoise (usually in DaVinci from what I can see in your video) export from DaVinci and then do a third export in Premiere? And you don't worry about generation loss?

I typically color in resolve and then export as ProRes and put back into premiere. If in resolve and exporting directly I check the box that says multi pass, I change encoding profile to high, and I generally set a target bit rate to something a bit higher than premiere, I feel like it doesn’t do as good of a compression job, so typing in 50000 for a typical reel.
