I have three of them, and I have converted a great many people to Barrio lines. Not a single complaint other than it is difficult to get them at the moment. Highly recommended.

I became aware of the Barrio fly lines a number of years ago and purchased several of Mike’s dry fly lines. In particular, I have had an orange dry weight forward #5 on a 7’-9” modern day glass rod (Steffens Bros.) blank built out by Tightloops. This line has performed very well and is in great shape for it’s age. Excellent quality for the price and excellent service from Mike. Definitely less expensive than my favourite brand of Air Flo WF lines.

Excellent tips for fly line care, they are as you say, overlooked, take them off the reel every time they will not be fished for a while, appreciated.👍

I used to do this a lot years ago as most of my fishing was on the rivers. So come closed season, they would be cleaned and hung. I was left with two lines to do a bit of still water fishing. These lines lasted me for years, and never a real problem with memory. Now lines are rarely hung as I spend more time on the water. But for those who are more fare weather fishing. This is a must. Nice to hear from you again Paul and thanks. Shaun.

This is really a top line. Mike has really thought about this. I have not checked out what they do up to date. But the line I reviewed was great. If anything it may have had a bit to much stretch. Hooking fish at distance was difficult. And I mean a whole line or near as. But I myself am considering getting another one. With a fast tip rod this stretch can be a bonus. I will be able to present lighter tippet. The rod will load very quickly, due to the 10' front tapper and 10' belly. This again is ideal for casting in close quarters. And if your timing is a bit out. No worry. The back line is tapered all the way to the end on the reel. The line I had was the GT, I think 90. But thinking of putting on bigger reel this time. So may end up with the 120. Same line just longer. Check out other reviews. Hope this helps. Take care. Shaun.

Floating fly lines have to be the most trying thing for me. I have been casting and fishing with so many. And it still bugs me. And you can not rely on spending more money to find the line that suites. Then is there such a thing as bad batch. I would say yes. Example. Last year I purchased a Wolf TT then a week later my mate had the same line. His is fine, mine has bad memory. Have told the supplier, they said to bring it back. The point is this should not happen. The Barrio lines on the whole are pretty good. But I have had about three reports including yourself about memory problems. The online reviews are pretty good also. I am using a hardy line a good bit, its the crs and one called trout flies lines. I think that's what it is called. Its a mine field mate. Shaun.

Hi Russell, The Bario line is good, but it does have a good bit of stretch. Has got low memory and its best attribute is the very short front taper. This is a very good line for beginners as it loads the rod very quickly. I have fished with this line for the last 3 months and had loads of fish. It actually casts very well into wind. So long as you are a short to mid range caster its great for the money. But if you fish a bit further out you will struggle. My mate has just bought that snowbee. I have just used for the first time too day the lee wulff tt. very good line. its a 7 weight, but I think it should go on a six rod. I will be checking this out on next trip and it will go onto a video very soon. Thanks for the comment. take care. Shaun.

I’ve ordered to of them. £29.99 and the company is called Rede River. They do a floater and a intermediate. Shoots off the reel with no effort and is as straight as an arrow. No memory

Hi Robert, Thanks very much mate, and yes I would be more than happy to tell you. The line in the video is Gt 90. I have spoken with Mike Barrio himself and he has told me that all the lines have the same core. Now this was due to the stretch. I have fished this line loads in the last 3 months and that is a lot of fishing time. I really do like this line and its caught a load of fish, using buzzers, lures and nymphs. But if you fish big distance, hooking is a bit soft as the line has a good bit of stretch. The line in the air is amazing as it has a running line which is tapered and a short 20' front taper. Two back casts and its away. The only reason I went for Gt 90 was the colour. Once you have fished with it a bit, Please let me now how you are getting on. Many thanks. Shaun.

I did contact Mike Barrio a while ago asking about putting a loop on end of the line. So I think this is the new line and price. I have not checked this out yet. Have been working with a load of other lines. But I have had a few negative comments on this line. But for most have been positive. Have been using a Hardy crs line a good bit. Not bad. The next line is Rio Single Spey. Needs a fast tip rod mind. Justin who I fish with has one. We put it on my McKenzie. It was spot on. Sorry I can't help much. But fly lines are a mind field. I don't think anybody will ever work them out, as every line performs different on every rod and depends on the caster. What I do know is if your mate has a line try it on your rod. Two of us boys has even bought the same line. Wolf tt and they are different. One is good the other shit. Sorry I cant be more positive. Take care mate. Shaun.

Hi Ian, like you I used Cortland for years. But it is now the last line I use. I do have many lines, and more on the way, both ends of the market. Barrio lines could be having an upgrade soon. They could end up with a welded loop. I am looking for the line that can fish not just cast. The trout flies line is a good fishing line, but it struggles with casts over 70'. Thanks for the comment Ian. Take care. Shaun.

Just checked them out. But I think you meant Sunray not Sunday. Yes in that case. I was casting a Sunray last week. It is a heavy line and aggressive. They say a 5# is actually 7#. I have found this info online. You can overload any rod to make it cast a bit easier. For me I look for a line that can fish, not just cast. This is a casting line. Much the same as a lot of lines out there. I have more lines on order, and if any of them are worth there money, I will tell every body. So keep a look out. Take care Sam. Shaun.

You are sort of correct. No matter how many lines we try, we will never try them all. However, way back then this line If I remember was around £20. I still rate this line. Even thou it is more than double the price. For sure every situation, rod and caster can have a different response from the line. What makes the best line. Is the line you are most happy with.

@@shaunfishes101 tropics saltwater fly line for tarpon fishing is way different from freshwater dry fly fishing line. there is no way to make single line that is the best for any situation. and price has nothing to do with that.
