I choose #5, and in actual fact I did. I also paid some money to its developer to remove the nag screen as I do not mind paying for a quality plugin. In Ableton you can insert a MIDI effect before the plugin to alter its response to velocity too, to make it as hard or soft as you like. I certainly choose it over all the others you mentioned as I was unimpressed with all of them for various reasons.

Spitfire are mainly doing orchestral libraries, so they have some "standard" controls they include in all of their libraries that are most useful for orchestral instruments. The sliders you show in this video are generally for expression and modulation (CC 11 and CC 1). I haven't tried this drums library, but if it works like their other libraries, the slider on the left controls the volume of the kit (how loud it sounds), and the one on the right controls the dynamics (how hard the drums are played).

One plugin that's often overlooked but it's quite popular in the Linux crowd is DrumGizmo. It lacks many of the bells and whistles from the plugins shown here and requires you to manually mix the kit, but it has a very good humanizer that is not seen on other plugins, which allows you to determine how tight your "drummer" is, how long it takes for it to recover from playing out of time and things like that.

As a starter/newbie to recording in a DAW, I am rather overwhelmed by the plethora of choice available. Each video has its pros and cons, with the CPU requirements varying from plugin to plugin. I write from classical to rock, so Spitfire’s products seem the most appealing. However, my weak point, being the desktop requirements, seem to need upgrading, in a country where the IT knowledge on music production pc’s is lacking. From what I can figure out is that a good gaming pc, without the top end graphics card, would be the closest I can get? Thanks for the informative videos?

In Spitfire Labs Drums, the right slider is dynamics. When all the way down, it allows full key velocity to work. When all the way up, it maxes out key velocity and all sounds are equally loud (MIDI velocity is maxed out). You can see the full details here: kzitem.info/news/bejne/1JxjtJycsIKGhpw This user interface is generic to many different Spitfire plugins. The left slider (called expression) is often volume of some sort (like volume of a violin), and the right slider does different things for different plugins (like number of violins playing). Also, the center round slider has different FX for different plugins (not just reverb, but tremolo, etc. depending on the plugin). Click on the center button to choose the FX you want to see. Spitfire doesn't document these details in easy to find locations, but they have KZitem videos for each plugin that explains each in detail. There isn't much to explain, but so the videos are short and to the point.

Michael Lohmeyer would I be correct in saying that the right slider, in this instance, also adds EQ?
@mglohmeyer
4 жыл бұрын
I only repeated what the linked video said, but I just rewatched it and realize I was off. I guess it really says the right slider (what the video called the middle slider) affects how much key velocity controls dynamics as I explained _but_ I guess they didn't really clarify exactly what dynamics is. I haven't tried the Labs Drums lately, but on other Labs products, the Dynamics slider will do things like change the number of instruments playing (like 1 vs. several violins), or similar. I use an Expressive E Touche on some of the Spitfire products (some Labs products as well as the BBC orchestra) to control these sliders for some instruments to give realistic control of the sound. For other instruments (like Labs Drums), it doesn't make as much sense. Just set the sliders and play. Ultimately I guess you have to just try it to see exactly what the sliders do. I love the Spitfire Labs products. They have a lot of really unique sounds, and because they are free, they are definitely worth checking out.

Some plugins become your go-to-plugins, they are the first ones you pick when you want to work on an idea. MTPowerDrumKit2 is such a plugin. But I had the same issue, it feels like 'only loud', so your tip is very welcome. but I would like to see the reverb adjustable. As it comes it is rather 'big', stadium-like. So now i wonder, it it the loudness or is it the bigness? SSD5 disappointed me a bit, some of the sounds were too tiny?modest for my taste. A goods rimshot is hard too find, too. Sennheiser (which seemed like a decent company to me) wanted too many personal data that are none of their business, so they can keep their stuff.

For as long im still saving for Superior Drummer 3, MT-Powerdrum kit 2 is the best of all..I dont know how it ended up on the last place on your list, but I guess you are not much in to fast and hard hitting drummers. It comes with grooves, simple in use, made for metal, rock, and all stuff with fast and dynamic music. They sound a bit too mechanic in my opinion, but so far this is the closest to what i want to get. Aaand they need external compressor plugin. The compressor in MT-powerdrumkit 2 is absolutely useless garbage. You get far better results by using the built in compressor in Cakewalk wich already have some nice sounding presets for your drums. And on top of that you have a video HERE ON THIS CHANNEL that show exactly how to split MT-Powerdumkit 2 in to seperate tracks so you can use different presets on different drums.. I use special compression on snare, floor, and toms, while i left the crashes and hihat untouched because they sound very clean. Thank you for that video where you told us how to split drumkit in to tracks. THAT HELPED! If you new to this channel please dont skip any videos. This is the best school I have been to. ❤😍👍💖🤣😘

This means that existing DrumMic’a! installations can be used without limitations, but new installations will include a non-removable time-out for the Instrument when loaded in the KONTAKT PLAYER* freeware. The DrumMic'a drums sound sweet! I think I want to use that one.

Don't, you'll have to pay.

@@Wesssel I can't use them, because I don't have Kontakt. For now I'm just going to continue to hand pick each drum sound from the many drum libraries I have on my computer. I just put each sample into Reaper on my drum track, and then route them each to their own track.

Have you seen the free orchestra from Spitfire Audio Mike?...you can get it for £49 if you want it immediately, or free if you can do a quick survey and wait 2 weeks...some great sounds in there!

Oh I filled out the survey about 3 or 4 weeks back. Must be due! Will be checking it out soon :)

@@CreativeSauce May be sitting in your junk mail - check that too. It's a very good piece of software and I'm tempted to go purchase the mid-level version.

It's nice, but honestly I think it's worth spending a small amount of money to get Sonivox's Film Score Companion. Costs next to nothing on Plugin Boutique and does beat Spitfire on sound quality imho. Nothing against Spitfire, their BBC orchestra is great but it's a couple of hundred meg in size compared to 45 gig for the Sonivox which unavoidably impacts the sound.
