That's actually the best move for white in that position, it's more than +3 for white. That's why you shouldn't play this. Instead of Nxe4 you should play something like d5

My favorite defense you should cover is the Ulvastad variation. Basically instead of NxE4 you play D5, ExD5 and then B5 deflecting the bishop

Castle you can still win u take the pawn on f2 with ur knight he taked with rook and then you get your bishop attacking the rook and then best move i think is like defend with queen and then u take rook with bishop and then he taked with queen and then u take the bishop from the after fried liver attack and i think the knight is trapped idk i cant base this off my moepry

It's known as the Ponziani Steinitz Gambit and it's a very real thing. Bxf7 is the best move objectively but any person rated below 1900 does not know any sort of mainline theory on the Gambit and what whites best moves are. The thing about gambits is that natural looking moves look like theyre the best moves until your opponent punishes that severely.

still effective for 1500 and below. as a 1400, i smoke about 80-90% of my opponents using this line when white is trying the fried liver attack. i believe database analysis is just as important as engine analysis for beginners. while engine doesn't always like "trappy" lines, doesn't mean you won't find success. of course to get better you'd still need to learn solid openings, but this one is closer to "fun chess" than "hope chess" in my opinion :)

Anti fried liver works at lower levels but around 1300-1400 it usually just wastes too much time that you need against an opening that can dominate the center very quickly

Im around 1450 to 1500 now and im pretty surprised by how many people I still see doing that at my level. They probably got traumatized by it when they were 1000 an just stuck with it ever since

Everyone is talking about the traxler, but no one is talking about the Polario defense. The traxler is as dubious as the fried liver attack. But the polario is a solid defense and you come up with a slight advantage. The only downside is that it's "boring"

As a fried liver player, the polerio defense is the only thing that's actually going to get you a good Two Knights Defense game as Black while avoiding having to play against the fried liver itself. All the little trap openings are refuted if White knows what he's doing

be warned if white plays bishop takes on f7 instead of knight its just significantly better for white. This is a fun trap but most solid is d5 instead of taking the pawn with the knight

They can take with the bishop instead of the knight f7, checking the king and forcing him to block the queen from moving out. It will be equal material but black has lost right to castle and king is in a bad spot.

When you do Qe4+, if they block with their bishop, you take the rook with check. From here if they defend with their bishop, do Qxh2 They will probably then take your rook Then play Qxg3+, this forces the king to e2. Then Nd4 is mate.

This is one of the best ways to loose in under 10 moves. If they take with the bishop, your down a pawn, with undeveloped pieces, unable to castle. This variation only works for clueless people under 400 elo.

Just play Bc5 on move 3, before bringing your knight to f6. Avoids all of this mess and you don’t lose a tempo! Main line Italian! 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 BC5

Bxf7+ and you're sunk. Instead of Nf6 I sometimes play the Hungarian Defense (Be7) to prevent Ng5 and get a solid position as most players my level don't know the lines as white. Also, instead of the Hungarian, Stockfish likes to push d5 and after exd5 continuing with Na5, hitting the bishop. I think that's the mainline

If you are struggling with Bf7+, try the Fritz variation, or the Polerio defense. Those are both much better imo.

It's worse. If your opponent is above 600 or so, they'll very likely take the pawn on f7 with the bishop instead of going for the "free knight".
