Yep, I shoot low light hiking often and you still need a gimbal. When my gimbal quit after 3 hours on a recent outing and you compare the footage from the gimbal to no gimbal for the remaining footage it's not even close. I use the hohem iSteady Pro 3 for its easy set up and go. Hero 8. I'll have to check out the Crane M2 for its adaptability. Great video as always...

Absolutely spot on. Low light conditions shot with hypersmooth turned on, on my Gopro 9, yielded a bad footage to say the least. Even my Note 8 would have given better results. I am looking for a gimbal after a personal bad experience, or should I say, not having read enough into it, before buying the GoPro.

Keep on doing more videos on action camera gimbals, because most of them don't make any videos about them very often. As you are making them it's easy for people like us to find the best purchase decision by looking into to your reviews! I really didn't find any helpful videos on hero 9 camera gimbals until you! So please keep up the work on all new action cams' especially on gopro's and DJI's... Good luck!!

Thank you, at last someone who doesn't blindly say you don't need a gimbal anymore! Agreed the 7/8 and 9 have superb stabilization, but as you rightly say it isn't always about stable shots, I use it for moving time lapse with a GoPro or as you pointed out remote camera movement, especially for wildlife videography. Love your content but struggling with my hero 9, same as the 8 when it was first released it keeps freezing up and first GoPro I've had that has overheated and that's in the UK with less than favourable weather at the moment.

I've been using the Crane M2 with my little Nikon cameras for years now, i've gotten away with all kinds of whacky lenses (tiny stabilised 300mm!), and it even works with a rode videomicro on the top (though it can't go underslung with that). I like that it folds flat by undoing the red lever, and the whole rig is so small and light that i can put it on a big 2m pole for massive jib/crane shots (with remote control from a phone if required!). I can also even get my Fuji XT3 on there for doing timelapse pans, but it's a bit much for the motors in any other use. :p And camera stabilisation is not a replacement for a gimbal. Camera/lens stabilisation cuts vibrations/jitter, and gimbals take care of macro movements. I always use a stabilised lens whenever i can on my gimbal and it makes a huge difference to combine the two. Plus for a gopro that extra weight and handle length of even a tiny gimbal helps a lot with smoothing motion. Even a regular handle or selfie stick would make a big difference over just holding the camera.

I've had some higher end gimbals with much bigger cameras attached and found them very easy to balance. For whatever reason the M2 took a lot of time to balance and a lot of frustration missing shots I wanted to grab and missed due to me sitting at a table balancing. I was using the Sony a6400. A couple of options come to mind that would work with the Crane M2 discussed in this video: 1 - Use a GoPro mount to 1/4" tripod mount adapter that you attach to your GoPro. Then, attach that to a 1/4" tripod quick disconnect plate, with the receiver for the quick disconnect plate attached to the gimbal. 2 - Use a Ulanzi Magnetic Quick Release Adapter Base Mount for GoPro, with one piece attached to the GoPro and the other attached to the gimbal.

Hello, new subscriber here! I just acquired a GoPro Dual Hero 3D System that comes with 2 Hero 3+ Black cameras. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the specs show the total weight of the Zhiyun Crane M2 is 500grams. With the weight of my 3D rig being 300grams, I could conceivably mount this to the bottom of my DJI Mavic 2 Pro using the 1/4" screw thread at the bottom of the handle of the Crane M2. Total payload weight would be 800grams, which is still under the maximum payload weight of 1,100grams as spec'd by DJI. Obviously, I would be using the Crane M2 for it's 3-axis gimbal for other uses like shooting handheld shots since the Hero 3+ Black cameras didn't have any stablilization, but I though I'd ask you if my proposed setup of mounting the Crane M2 on my Mavic 2 Pro would work. Looking forward to your thoughts!

Thanks for your great review on this gimbal! I went to the Zhiyun web site which only showed Crane M2 compatibility for Gopro's 5, 6 & 7 with the following uses Take photos, start/stop recording video, zoom in/out In addition, they didn't lst any cell phones. Obviously, their web site hasn't been updated for quite some time. I'm looking for a high quality 3-axis gimbal for the GoPro Hero10 and iPhone 13 Pro Max. A lot of gimbals out there for vlogging seems to be either cheaply made and/or can't handle the weight. The Crane M2 seems to lean towards a more professional compact gimbal that can more than handle the weight. Now, Zhiyun needs to get their web site up to date. Thanks again for another great review. 😊👍

Can't get portrait mode from gopro hero 9?

Just got this crane m2 and I’m wondering if I made the wrong decision. Gimbal is good to smooth out pans and also to fix the horizontal level. Since the GoPro is good with that already then it’s just the panning. One could argue the stabilization becomes bad in low light and the gimbal would help in a GoPro but the iPhone 12 max is very good in low light making it a better camera. Actually I have found the iPhone is superior in everything to the GoPro but the action durability. This made me question if I just should have gotten an osmo mobile 4 or maybe the new om5 rumored to come out

Wow....it seems Feiyu Tech has stepped ahead of DJI for this segment of camera. Using an adapter by Pgytech to place action cameras on the gimbal is not user friendly

DJI needs to step-up and make an action cam to DJI OM3/OM4 adapter.

@@AirPhotography thank you. GPH9 is my first action camera and I intend to use it on hiking and snowboard videos. And I have no idea how to configure the settings.
