My friend has been rocking a 1070 for years. He only recently ran into framerate issues with new games. I've been rocking a 1080 for a few years and it handles all my games on max settings with high framerate on a 32in 1440p monitor. I honestly think a used 1080 for $120 is probably the best bang for your buck someone could get right now. I paid $300 for mine, but i sold my 1050ti for $250 the same day.

I've got a 1080 in a FX8350 desktop PC. I used to have a 2070, 1070, 970 and 560Ti in it earlier but that 1080 is enough for VR at that CPU's level. So 1060-80 or 580-90 would be a good match imho.

10-series cards are the goats, except the 1030 lol. Been rocking 1050ti for years, and my upgrade was a 1070ti, felt like a whole new system within the same generation 😂

I just upgraded from my 4790K Last July and I was using a 2070 Super and it worked great. Now I have a 4070Ti (pre Supers)and a 13900KS of course had to change everything but my hard drives, but it was worth it.

Why would you get that CPU when you could've gotten a 4080 super/7900 and stick with an i7?

Tbh with the low driver overhead of RDNA2, they could get away with even something like an Rx 6650xt-6700xt range and then just upgrade the rest of the system later and still get most of those GPUs as well at 1440p or above.

I used to play at 4K with 4790K (overclocked @4700 as remember) with 3080ti until motherboard died (2023). Very good solution and looking at results I had it was bottlenecking only on some games (like up to 10% so not much). So theoretically if you play 4K medium details you can pair it now with 4070 Super. But assuming that you will change your CPU in the future I would go up to 4070ti super. Small bottleneck but with DLSS etc you can play 4K at max/high settings nicely already (reaching close to 60fps on most demanding games). DIfferent story if you are playing in 1080p and need high fps. Then 4790K with bottleneck you graphic card heavily quite quickly - RTX4060 is max as resonably balanced solution yet.

I have a killer secondary system with a i5-2500k and a 1070 that can run stuff like Witcher 3 at 1080p 60fps. Some of those sandy and ivy bridge cpus are still holding up a decade later.

mmm poor gtx1070.. my first pc was i5 6600k and gtx 1080 and i had no clue how hard the cpu was bottlenecking untill i upgraded it later fps litterally doubled, so the same case would be for you just from a cpu upgrade your peformance will double

FYI during gaming the cpu will be bottlenecking 14% with an gtx1070. If you want best out of your cpu, that means you are getting best out of it. But for the gpu, you could probably go cheaper and still get similar results.

Dide, I had a 4770k paired with a RTX 2070, worked fine. Sure when I upgraded to a i7 8700k I got 20% more fps, but the 2070 still worked fine on the 4th gen platform. Do not advise to not invest money in an old system, this specific guy can be well served with a used 2060/2070.

Don’t get the 980. Maxwell cards lack support for the latest revision of DirectX (I believe that would be DX12 Ultimate?) meaning that it will have compatibility issues in newer titles. My suggestion would be the 1070/1080

Damn, FX 8320, my old cpu :D FX 8320 is actually pretty good, you can pair it with a RX 570-580 or GTX 1060. Especially if you overclock, but you need a decent motherboard and a good cooler for it. My old GPU was a HD 7750 2GB DDR3, which was absolutely dogshit. My FX 8320 at least deserved a HD 7870.

I have an i5 4690k, I believe it’s safe to say I need an upgrade as it only has 4 cores no hyper threading. And the motherboard still uses ddr3. I have it paired with a gtx 1650 and I’m able to play most games well on low settings (most of my games are from the 2010s have only a few newer games), however games like elden ring which I really like only barely stay above 30 fps in some fights. I think a cpu this old would be fine for people who just play games like Fortnite or any other esports title. Thank you for taking the time to read this long ass comment.
