We went for the MM 500 after careful testing. LCD-X sounded very dipped in the mids, like a smiley-curve almost. MM 500 sounds natural and revealing in the mids,at least to my ears. Mixing vocals is a lot easier for us now (worked on genelecs, ns10’s and cheaper headphones previously) The transient response and soundstage was pretty equal, lcd-x had slighrly more width.

Sorry for the late reply. A standard audio interface is OK with both, at least to my ears. I have a violectric headphone amp but for mixing I prefer to listen straight from my audio unit, without any colouring from an amp.

please tell me, is it possible for the mm500 to use an equalizer to make the same sub-bass (35-40 Hz) as the lcd-x, and make the upper frequencies brighter for female vocals and acoustic guitar? This is not for mastering, but for listening to music.

Hello! Excellent video and thanks for the Practical conclusions in comparison. I clearly understand - based on the graphs, that the Audeze LCD-X will be more "linear". Tell me please - I have read a lot of bad reviews about the standard cable - which comes with the Audeze LCD-X. And many people replace it with something more expensive. But I do not see the point in this. After all, all (smart) people and engineers know that cables instantly CHANGE the frequency response. But the Audeze LCD-X were developed specifically for their own branded standard cable. Tell me please, do you work with the standard cable, or have you replaced all the standard cables with the Audeze LCD-X? Thank you!

you can get lcsdx used for half the price of mm 500.... that turns it a better buy right away i think... in terms of enjoying ii think lcdx is clear winner of the 2. most audiophile reviewers prefer lcdx they say, they say the only downside fir mixing on lcdx can be slightly more overpowering low end compared to mm 500... actually i had some time with mm500 now, lcdx can be eqed to sound better for mixig and as a value second hand bought it just beats mm500. but if you got the money mm500 works better for mixing generally i think. there is more details here maybe it's because its using some of the tech on lcd5...

I think both are great and just people think the MM500 are better for mixing because are a "Mixer Signature Headphone" and that give them reassurance, but as any headphone here we don't have the acoustic playing into the equation and really does not matter so much the curve of your headphone as long the quality and clarity that they reproduce is great and you KNOW how they sound and how to make them translate.... some people even go re-calibrating their headphones to a Harman Curve, thing I found unnecessary as you also need to know how to make them translate as with ANY other curve.

Good comparison, been looking at an upgrade for my trusty HD-600 but I'm still evaluating the mid tier market as well, a lot of engineers swear about the HiFiMan Sundara, it's "updated" heir HiFiMan Edition XS and the new Audeze MM-100, would love more headphone takeaways from your perspective. For my lcd-x I've bought 2 weeks ago Burson playmate 2, ealier it was ifi zen dac. The difference isn't huge but I feel that all limitations gone. The sound is more liquid, softer and at the same time more powerful with reacher timbre. I hear more air between instruments. It's great combo. I use upgrated version with V6 vivid oppamps.

I just did a few hours of mixing with LCD-Xs. I didn't solve my mix problems. Despite their high quality, these headphones are no replacement for a well treated room. So put your money there first. If making noise in a room is not an option, then do headphones. But, it won't work as well. Eventually you gotta hear your mixes through real speakers.
