All of my tomatoes are in the ground lol, and doing well. Cherokee purple is my favorite for sure, but I also have husky cherry red, better boy and early girl. I buried some fish 10 inches deep, then back filled the hole with 25 percent compost and 75 percent regular Florida dirt. They've been in for 5 weeks now, and are doing exceptional.

I live in south florida and every fall i plant my tomatoe crop along with my other fall veggies and within a matter of weeks they are absolutely decimated by horn worms. Nothing i have tried seems to keep them away. Im to the point where im going to put them all under netting and hand pollinate them to help them along. I really wish i didn't have to do this. I have a pretty big garden and am pretty well versed in growing tomatoes but these horn worms are driving me crazy! Any advice?? Help!!??

Im trying Cherokee purple and they are growing fast and strong. Another one Im trying is one called garden leader monster. I planted 7 varieties of seeds this year and the leader monster are growing so so fast and every seed came up. Not sure if its a heirloom but it is open pollinated. Supposed to grow up to 2 lb tomatoes. Im in FL and enjoy your channel as you are also. Will have to try those yellow ones in feb for the second crop. Thanks for the videos again. Got 25 plants in 7-15 gallon buckets and hoping for a great year!

New to your channel…I’ve been on the SpaceCoast of Florida almost 20 years, just now trying my hand at tomatoes in containers…I’m originally from NC where tomatoes grow well…my favorite is Cherokee Purple…so I tried those Mortgage Lifer plus few “Tommy Toes” types….I got maybe 4 good tomatoes…the rest would split as soon as it began to ripen… Anyway….I’m just stating seeds to try growing a fall crop of tomatoes & trying to find tips that will help…I’ll search your channel to see if you offer a video on fall planting in Florida…❤

@@garythornbury9793 crop rotation is key! if your growing in containers change out the soil (you can compost the old stuff) and sanitize the pots. Look for varieties that have resistance (usually letters VFN) I like tropic for growing in Florida if you've been having trouble. Also if possible don't water the plants themselves - just water the soil which is ideally covered with mulch. Hope this helps!

@@TheUrbanHarvest I was planning on it!! I'm trying to pick more edibles that I can throw in the ground. (Itching to get that Roselle going...) Do you have any tomato cages you recommend?
@TheUrbanHarvest
4 жыл бұрын
The ones I have in the video & would highly recommend are Burpee tomato cages! They are easier to fit around the tomatoes than the round ones, sturdy enough to hold them up, and fold flat when not in use (a little pricey but you get what you pay for). www.burpee.com/gardening-supplies/supports-ties-and-fences/pro-series-cage---silver-prod001240.html

So the shade house will let me grow around the year in Florida and will protect the plants from everything?
@TheUrbanHarvest
3 жыл бұрын
Nothing will protect them from everything! If you go with a climate controlled green house I suppose it would put you in a pretty good position but the expense would not be justified. And even then you will still have issues pop up. Part of gardening is learning to work with the environment and having a little grace if you don't harvest 100% of what you plant.

@@TheUrbanHarvest so let’s say I will go with a green house shades on top and climate control. Skip the summer, but the rest of the year should be fine. I am only trying to control the wether for now. I can alway shade the top. It’s just hard to get the info I need. I know I won’t be able to cover everything, just something I can get a control over.
