Why is picking a printer is so fucking hard! I just want the best for the money (I’m willing to spend a little more but I want to be sure, I’m aware that not everything is under my control but…..). I was settled for the brother but I’ve seen so many reviews that it’s low quality. So for now I’ll go with canons, until I see a video taking about how bad it is then I’ll switch to epson. 😂

Just a recommendation for future videos. You really should make separate videos for inkjet and laser printers. Also, separate laser b/w and color lasers. By doing so, you can also focus more time on details between like printers. I for instance know laser would be my choice for office work but I would like to know which lasers are best. I rarely use color.

I think all the options you showed had auto feeders. What printers would you consider without this feature? I am looking for a good balance between quality and minimal desk space. Definitely paper trays that are hidden rather than top feeders.
@RTINGSdotcom
2 жыл бұрын
Hey Emil, You're absolutely right that ADFs make the printer bulkier, so I get wanting something a bit more compact. We haven't tested many printers that only have a flatbed scanner and a hidden paper tray, but I can definitely suggest a few that we have. The type of printer (inkjet or laser) you should buy will depend on what you print and how often you print, so I've listed two of each for you 🙂 If you want to print in color or print photos, then you'll want to go for an inkjet. A good compact inkjet without an ADF is the Brother MFC-J1205W (we talk about it briefly at 4:22, but you can have a look at the full review on our website). If you print a lot and frequently, there's also the Epson EcoTank lineup that might interest you, like the Epson EcoTank ET-2800. If you don't need color and don't print frequently, then a laser is the way to go. Something like the HP LaserJet MFP M234dw is a good choice since it's fairly compact, has a flatbed scanner, and the paper is hidden (it does stick out a bit at the front, though). If you don't need a scanner at all, then models like the Brother HL-L2370DW are ideal since they're super compact. Hopefully, that helps you in your search-let us know if there's anything else!

@RTINGSdotcom
2 жыл бұрын
Hey there, We definitely understand how this can be confusion, so we’re going to try and clear things up for you. That's exactly right! Laser printers use toner (a finely powdered pigment) that fuses to your paper via electrical charges. (You can see more about the whole process in the Laser Cartridge section of our www.rtings.com/printer/tests/design/cartridge.) It doesn't have printheads like inkjet printers do, so they don't clog up if you print rarely. They're definitely the better option if you only print a few pages each month. They are often a bit more expensive than inkjet printers, but it might be well worth it! On the other hand, inkjets tends to clog up more since dried up ink or air bubbles can get into the printhead nozzles. As long as you're using it often (so printing a few pages every week at least), you shouldn't get as many problems with it. Inkjets are a lot better at printing photos, too, since they're able to drop their ink more precisely than laser printers. But if you're just printing out text documents, forms, return labels, etc. then you'll likely prefer a laser printer.

Hello! This is a bit of tricky situation given the information you provided. If you're not printing often enough, then the printheads will clog, which could be the issue your running into it, and will likely happen regardless of the inkjet printer you get. Generally speaking, the best option for people who don't print a lot is a laser model, but color laser models are expensive. The best option we can think of is the Brother MFC-J1205DW, which is roughly in the same price range as the HP you have, but again, if you don't print often enough, the printheads will clog still. Hey Maranda! Thanks for those details. Since you're planning on printing often, I'd recommend a printer that uses toner (i.e. laser or LED printer), like the Brother HL-L3290CDW or the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M182nw. This way, you won't have to worry about having to waste ink and money on printheads that get clogged up with ink. Color laser printers (especially all-in-ones) are definitely a bit pricier, but they're definitely worth it if you don't print much. You can also find them on sale at some retailers-you'll just have to see what's available near you. On the other hand, if you do want to get a color inkjet (which is often cheaper), we recommend going with Epson WorkForce printers. Compared to other brands, Epson printers tend to clog the least, so printing once a week shouldn't cause many issues. Something like the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-3820 should do the trick for you. Hopefully this helps! Let us know if you have any other questions.
