Would squadrons or elite dangerous even support pedals?
@TarrinTheGreat
4 жыл бұрын
@@jatedin1077 Why not? I used to play Elite: Dangerous with Thrustmaster T16000M FCS Flight Pack which included all three controllers: joystick, throttle and pedals, had absolutely no issues setting up the yaw axis on pedals controller. I was using this setup in X-Wing: Alliance as well, but I had to use T.A.R.G.E.T. software in order to force the game to think that it is all one single controller with lots of axis and buttons (wouldn't recognize the input from pedals and throttle otherwise, or vice versa, that was dependent on which input was plugged into the USB port first), though button assignment process was a bit of a pain but manageable with a bit of patience and time. Pedals can be recognized as a separate input controller, most modern games are able to do that, else one has to use an application that reassigns all the required axes to a virtual single controller (aforementioned T.A.R.G.E.T. or the awesome vJoy). I have been unable to test the pedals from that FCS pack with Star Wars: Squadrons, unfortunately, as I no longer have these (couldn't get my hands on NyoGel 767A when I started having the infamous stiction issues due to the original grease being an utter shit. Ended up throwing away, after trying a different and cheaper grease. Never again.), but I'm sure that the game is going to read the pedal input perfectly fine. Could even recognize it as a part of throttle due to the specifics of how these pedals connect to the rest of the setup. If it is Thrustmaster Warhog HOTAS with, say, Logitech G Pro Flight Rudder Pedals (or any other set of pedals that you connect via USB to your PC) then it should show up as a separate new input and shouldn't cause the issues in modern games. Else, vJoy is your friend. TL;DR: Sorry for this unnecessary essay there. The answer is: yes, they should support. If they don't... well... they damn well should!

I've got a disgusting amount of time in Elite Dangerous so here's my thoughts on 2 of the sticks from your video because you didn't give them a spin in VR. The T-Flight's are the best entry level HOTAS's out there and they're great for space games in general because they have that detent at 50% throttle. You always know where 50% is which in Elite means you can reverse easily (this may be the same in Squadrons). It's simplicity is an asset in VR. You can always feel where the throttle is and none of the buttons are difficult to find in VR. Cheap and cheerful, I finally gave mine to a friend and I've bought one for another friend. I then upgraded to the T-16000. Also check the dial under the stick on the T-flight, that allows you to adjust the resistance of the stick. The cables make chair mounting the HOTAS unwise as you'll have that cable linking the two going across your lap, strapping you into the chair. The T-16000 is fantastic but it's definitely on the upper bound of complexity when it comes to using it in VR. The buttons, rear paddle, rear analog stick, and hat switches on the throttle are really easy to operate by feel. You will need to have a button bound for reverse throttle as there's no way of feeling when you're at 50% throttle. The base buttons are a little tricky to operate by feel alone. You have to use your pinky and thumb to operate them and the farther they are from the base, the less likely you are to be able to operate them quickly in a fight. The separate USB cables make chair mounting easy. Simply use USB extension cords to act as your breakaways and you can disconnect the chair from the PC whenever you need. Give the T-Flight a try first. If you find yourself really liking space games then upgrade to the T-16000. EDIT: Don't forget to turn off all your COVAS barks for max immersion in ED.

Nice finally seeing someone compare actual HOTAS for Squadrons. One thing to add, the X52 Pro is an excellent device too, although I am not sure if they still make it. And one thing to remember, most of the HOTAS is built to last. This is something that you will still be able to use in decades (you might need a USB A to C adapter then though ^^). There really is nothing that gets outdated about them, if it doesn't break, there is absolutely zero reasons to ever upgrade. One last thing, the Warthog is pronounced Wart hog (Warzenschwein). I have to educate you a bit. The major difference between T-flight and T16000 is movement sensors. T-Flight have old fashion potentiometers and T-16000, as well as Warthog, have hall effect magnetic sensors which are 100 times more sensitive and precise. It is similar to comparing displays on Rift CV1 and G2. About Warthog, now you got a chair and proper stick to go deeper in DCS. Just mount it on a chair with a stick in the middle of the chair and get extension pipe to extend movemant to the real plane level. Buy F18 with Supercarrier modul and than you will see what is imersion when you hold stick just in same place where it is in VR cockpit. You need just one more addition for your chair and it is call Gametrix Jetseat. kzitem.info/news/bejne/qGyNv2qhrGSoo3Y And it is not working only on flight or space sims, working on racing sims as well and most importhant thing it is affordable motion simulator in range of 150$.

When it comes to high end I would skip the Warthog stick and go for the Virpil Constellation Alpha. Much higher quality and also available as true left-handed (and twist if you want to). Great - and pretty much the only option - for lefties as me but also fantastic if you want to go for a dual stick setup for space sims to have good control of lateral thrusters (unfortunately not necessary for SW Squadrons). For cheap sticks I personally wouldn't recommend anything but the T16000, it is the best stick in its class.

That was an interesting perspective. Not one with which I agree, but that's what engenders this comment. First, the multi-way buttons are called hats, and the things on the back of the 'thruster' - throttle - of the mid-priced one are called paddles - just like on a high end car. More buttons and hats are good because you don't have to take your hands off the controls. The throttle control of the cheapo stick looked dreadful. Floppy is not good. With limited buttons you need to be able to take your hands off the controller to use the keyboard and be confident that the controller will stay put. The Warthog is supposed to be used with a set of pedals - an extra £100 or so - and I recommend wearing light driving gloves so your sweat doesn't eat away the paint - a problem with the earlier Cougar that I have. Flight gloves are not necessary. :) Out of those three, as the owner of a high-end HOTAS I reckon the PC player would be best advised to invest in the mid-priced HOTAS, adding rudder pedals and upgrading when funds permit. Once you've tried a decent HOTAS you'll never go back. There are many other HOTAS out there; investigation is left as an exercise for the reader. :)

I've also used and tried the old but good Thrustmaster gear (still gameport) FCS MK II, Pro FCS, X-Fighter (this stick is so stiff that it led me to slow down on simulators more than 20 years ago, after 30 minutes dofighting in ww1 or ww2 simulators I was exhausted) + WCS Mark 2, F22 Pro + TQS, and the CH Gear is my favorite. If we speak of squadrons, might want to get one soon. The other thing is games usually has a profile of button maps for the warthog. Squadron is said to lean on the simulator side, we might see a lot of button mappings. If the person is new to space sims or want to dive in the moment you are allowed, might be an option to consider. Look, I get that the Warthog has a great build quality, but you really need to consider the type of game you are using it for and what other accessories you have. Not having twist is like tying a hand behind your back. Mapping an axis to a button reduces it from an analogue axis to a digital (on/off only) axis, and it means that while your thumb is doing that, it can't do anything else like firing missiles (if you set that to the big red button). People need to think about how they are going to use their sticks, not just be dazzled by the metal. If you want the same functionality using a Warthog, you will have to buy rudder pedals for an additional $150+, and that also makes just playing the game more of a headache. There are other high-quality sticks out there that have twist like the Kosmosima or MCG with the twist adaptor, as well as some Virpil products.
@NanaHoshi35
4 жыл бұрын
And If you want something more than these, go Virpil VPC or VKB. They both featured much better gimbals, changeable stick head(grip) with more buttons(although not metal), and the left-hand version for dual-stick configuration (which might be better for space games, instead of the conventional stick and throttle configuration)
@Hothwaa

I have 2 VKB Kosmosima In L and R configs.. the beauty is being able to take the tension spring off the Y axis, but tighten the damper so you can use the left Y axis as throttle. Worth every penny! (Star Citizen player here)

If you want a cheap HOTAS setup that's surprising good quality, look for a Speedlink Black Widow. It was my first HOTAS and cost just over £20. It didn't have a twist function, but did have a rudder on the throttle. It is far more robust (and comfortable with a nice, rubbery texture) than the T-flight from Thrustmaster. I'm using a VKB Gladiator NXT (155 Euros and they make a left-handed version - yay) which is incredible, but I'm also using the Black Widow as a second stick for throttle, drift, menu navigation and various other functions.

Sebastian, the Warthog is merely the medium level of pro grade. Look into VPC/Virpil or VKB stuff, this is where it gets really hardcore. Anything below a Warthog is a toy if you are serious about flying. But I agree that most likely you won't need that for Squadrons as it is more arcade than simulation. Should still be fun though, looking forward to it!

I would agree that Squadrons is likely to have very arcade mechanics and result in fast, full stick deflection maneuvering. The T-Flight throttle might be the best option of the three for that because I doubt the game play is going to be about subtle throttle positions either. I am guessing it's going to be about slamming the throttle all the way forwards and slamming it all the way back. Sure. My Virpil kit with the metal gimbals will survive this....I'm not 100% sure the Warthog would though. I have owned a few T16000, I've managed to keep 2 working and still use them for certain things. (I travel for work a lot, so does my gaming laptop...so does a T16000 but I wouldn't buy another. If I am to buy another entry level stick it would be a VKB Gladiator NXT.

It's not "war-thark". It's "wart-hog" as its based on the A-10 WARTHOG aircraft (wart-hog). I own the PS4 HOTAS and use for the PC. I do not recommend it. The throttle only stays in postion when at full forward, back or middle. It won't hold if you take hand off for any reason unless its those positions. The joystick needs more HAT switches, and it creaks a lot. I also wish it had more buttons on the stick. But I'd be happy with at least a second HAT on the stick. You could use one for the power management and another for shield positioning. Hell a third HAT would be good to have free look without needing to toggle it on/off. The cable between the throttle and stick needs to be longer. That would let it sit either side of the keyboard when you seperate the two parts. It's not quite for average "gaming" keyboards, such as my G910. It's relatively cheap so it's only really good to get to see if you like HOTAS enough to later invest in something better. (Or if you're going to play enough games to justify a more expensive HOTAS set up). The twist on the stick at least means you don't need a rudder on the floor, one less thing to buy or if you have limited reale state under the desk.

A couple of issues with the review. T.Flight 4 has a lot of problem with drifting over time. The T16000 has HAL sensors which have magnetic sensors which never wear out because they don't make contact. Both sticks have rudder controls on the throttle but the T16000 has a better rocker which makes it far easier to accurately aquire targets, you can see how hard it is to get shots on target by using the stick twist. While I'm not sure how many hat-switches the T.Flight4 has apart from the one on the stick, the one's on the T16000 is great to bind to the different sheild and power settings which will definitely save your life in combat. The T16000 might just be double the value of T.Flight 4

WHAT THE actual F****?! Why did the prices of these EXPLODE to this degree...?! A Warthog once was priced around 250-300... NOW IT IS MORE THAN DOUBLE?! For the record: It has known flaws and was never considered "worth" the investment, but was pretty much the best looking and feeling hotas for a long time which was the reason for people even considering to buy one, not to mention the only alternative from Saitek reliably failed after a few years. A f-ing T1600 which was priced around 35-45 when it originally came out (in green) is now 200 just because it has an added cheapo plastic slider... How dumb are people to buy these things at those prices?! The T4.... THAT IS THE SAME UNIT in different color that I got in 2003! It was silver with blue buttons back then but that was pretty much THE ONLY difference! Yet it cost about half. Again: A low end joystick from 20 years ago that is still sold for more money just because it has a different paint scheme... . What aggravates me the most though, is that a Hall effect sensor is quite literally worth CENTS. CENTS! The whole contraptions cannot cost more than a few dollars. Except for the warthog due to its metal casing. It's insane what people pay as long as they are clueless and aren't offered alternatives. Sorry for the Caps but I had it with this industry!

I found if I went against EA advice & uninstalled my Thrustmaster drivers, it worked perfectly. Like in Elite Dangerous: There is a binds config file which is both editable & potentially shareable. It is at the least saveable so you can back up your controller configs. (Though it's probably best to save the whole folder). Open it with Notepad.
