Great video. I’m not an artist but found interesting. I think the Air 5 is a great bargain too. Only thing I would say though is that I think all “Airs” have 60hz screen vs 120hz on pros. Not sure what artists feel about it. Some users think it’s a big deal but for me personally it’s not really a thing 👍🏾. Apologies if you did already mention this!

After a 10 year digital art hiatus I got the Air 5th gen and have adored using it over the last year to practice. I enjoyed drawing again (specifically Procreate) so much I just upgraded to the 12.9 Pro 6th gen (mostly for the screen size.) I’m really light handed and the 60hz became very noticeable to me once I got comfortable, plus the Air would get really hot on Procreate cos I zoom in a lot for details and use loads of layers. I was constantly using a cooling mat as iPad screens automatically dim when overheating which got so frustrating when working with colours and made me paranoid I was reducing the Air’s life further. I haven’t broken the Pro in properly yet but I’m absolutely obsessed with it so far and can see now that working on a 12.9 screen is priceless!

Hi I'm an artist too and I'm thinking of getting an iPad air 5 but question is iPad air 6 might be a thing at the end of the year so and I'm really indecisive rn since I'm thinking of getting iPad air 5 but what if the iPad air 6 will have the hover feature that feature is really helpful! So what do u recommend I'd love to hear ur opinion! Also how much more expensive would the new air 6 be than air 5 just a question and thanks a have a great day!^^❤
@FutileGrief
Жыл бұрын
@@giratinalight hi there! No idea if there's going to be an iPad Air 6 by the end of the year. What I know is that the hover option is only available for the iPad Pro with the M2 chip, and I think it will remain thay way (for the pro line). So if you want it, your best option would be an 11 inch iPad Pro M2 128 GB. It's not much more expensive than the iPad Air 5 and it will be a better choice for you than waiting for an iPad 6. Regarding the price, I want to believe that it will be more or less the same as the iPad Air 5 but you know how Apple is lol they charge for everything. I ultimately chose the iPad Air 5 because I needed more storage (I work with video) and didn't want to pay the Pro price tag. If you're a digital artist and only paint and draw or even work with vectors, you can totally get away with 128GB of storage and you will enjoy the hover function and the 120Hz refresh rate. If you need more storage and feel like 256GB is enough and are not bothered by the 60Hz, I would get the iPad Air 5. Even if they come out with an iPad Air 6 I would reckon it will be essentially the same but with a slightly higher price tag and maybe an M2 chip. I have yet to use the M1 to it's full potential, I haven't even gotten close. The M1 is a massive beast of a chip and totally overkill. Even the iPad Air 4 is still a beast. I just really wanted the perks that came with the M1 chip hehhehheh. But yeah, tldr, consider how much storage you actually need because I think you could get away with an 11 inch Ipad Pro 128GB with the M2 chip. It has the hover functionality you want and it's only like 100-150 bucks more, and you get all the perks of the Pro.

To be 100% honest I don't draw as much as I want to, but through math I still cant find problems even if I drew every day and stored every single doodle. I don't use it for streaming or games, so much of its internal storage is free. The only thing I dislike about the Air 5 is the lack of magnetic covers, so I use a sleeve instead. I don't get why, because if you look at the internals there is a lot of empty space they could have used for that. My previous tablet was a Tab 6 which has an amazing cover that matches its colour.

When I started out with digital art 5-6 years ago I got an iPad pro, not sure which gen but it was new at the time. Worked great for 4 years or so but it was practically out of storage for the last 1,5 years.. (32 Gb 😬) I decided to invest in a better one a year ago after getting the new 2nd gen pencil for christmas and bought the iPad Air, Gen 5. It's been amazing honestly, love the bigger screen especially and the fact that the pencil charges itself automatically when attacked to the side of the screen. It was a hassle to keep the charging piece for the old pencil on me everywhere. Never tried Procreate, so I didn't know about the layer limits. That program really wouldn't work for me tbh. I've used ClipStudioPaint from the beginning, and usually use about 50-200, sometimes with complicated pieces up to 300 layers. Not joking. Yeah it crashes the program sometimes but not too much, that's why I save often. Some pieces take me months to complete, but that's just how it goes lol.

What is the logic behind the difference in layer in the versions with less or more than 1tb?? The capability of the software to handle or not the different number of layers doesn't have anything to do with the size of the storage of the device, but with the RAM and CPU. So what's the deal? Those versions have a better CPU and RAM or Apple and Procreate are just putting a pay wall to force artist to pay more in something that they don't need as 1tb of storage?

9:16 - It’s because they changed the amount of ram on some of the higher capacity ones. It’s something that they did not always do.

This was great, thank you. I want to get an iPad pretty much 95% of the time for drawing and animating, and the iPad air 5 sounds great! ^^ I'm sure I would definitely love a bigger screen though, I just wish those extra 2 inches didn't come at nearly double the price T-T

I love my ipad mini6. Such a good all rounder and so portable. I can still draw on it with procreate, just upgraded from 64gb to the 256gb version, just waiting for procreate to redownload and hopefully with all my art work on it. I used the backup that my apple store did this afternoon, the grey little wheel is still moving so going to leave it and let it do what it has to do. from the uk

Hi Brooke, I’m just getting started organizing everything into digital form and what to incorporate daily sketchy and journaling. My question to you is do you have a favorite template you use that captures all your needs? I’m going with Google calendar,and,.good notes and Procreate for now. I’m just searching fora daily planner/journal to get started. Thanks in advance. I absolutely enjoy your videos. Their comprehensive , informative and most of all you have a very pleasant and, calming delivery delivery. Which is the exact opposite of most over caffeinated tech gurus that pot how to videos. So thanks again!!!! Ken

Although most of the time I am using my current iPad Air 2 watching content yet I would like to do some art. I am in a loop between the iPad Air 5 256 gb of storage and the iPad pro 11 inch with 128 gb. The price difference between these two is not that high and at the same time I won’t be using all the bells and whistles. You may tell me to get a refurbished model or go with an old model however where I live it is hard to find a refurbished or old models. And if you do find the previous generation it would be expensive because only high storage is available

This was such an helpful video! I am looking to buy the 5th gen 12.9 refurbished and it would be $120 more to get the 512GB instead of the 256GB. I want to do more digital drawing and video editing, but I tend to get the 256GB. Or would the $120 be worth getting the 512GB?
