Dominican teachers at the public system earn more : an average of $50,000 - $58,000 pesos , which is about $1,000 US dollars. When they retire they get 100% of their salary for life. Now they will insert ESL in the public system, so I guess they'll need american teachers.

How about starting a teaching business? I am a native Spanish speaker (born and raised in Peru) with 35 years of US living experience and an American bachelor's degree. What are my chances of having a successful Spanish Academy for ex-pats?

They’re very lacking in special needs programs unfortunately. You’d need to be in Santo Domingo for the most advanced ones. That’s a good idea though! You may need residency for that but I’m not positive if they’d be a little more flexible.
