a Mitchell 308 or 306 with 8 steel bearings is my favorite. it's under fifty bucks and lasts forever. I have one on an ultralight rod I've used 7 years straight , almost every day. it works as good as it did the day I bought it. anyhow. thanks for the info . another great video. 😁

Those are decent, but with the new stradic (or somthing like the old rarenium u get a reel that costs like 150 bucks and is near to perfection.. super light and super smooth.. even reels that cost 4 times that amount are not much better than this. Its like comparing kids stuff to the real deal.

I'd really love something like that. I could never justify spending that much on a reel though. Since my first comment I've caught an 8lbs bass and several others over 5 with that old Mitchell of mine. I believe you on the quality of the stradic. I live on very very little so even fifty for what I have was really stretching my wallet. Thanks for your feedback friend.

And yet people catch fish after fish after fish after fish with kid's stuff that often cost ten bucks for rod and reel. It's not the tools that matter, it's the craftsman who uses the tools. Poor, untalented workers always demand the most expensive tools. Good, talented workers create art with the cheapest tools.

A really good technical review, I think. I love my CI4+ as it is just so incredibly light and that makes a big difference over the course of a long day. And, it is more waterproof than most other spinning reels so I find it is almost maintenance free. Almost all pros have one or more spinning set-ups on deck these days. You have to: drop shot, split shot, Ned rigs, smaller T-Rigs/jigs/weightless worms. Best option, too, for spy baiting, any techniques that require longer casts, casting into the wind or cross winds, days when you need to downsize to light lines for really small lures including crankbaits, top waters and spinners. LFG is correct: a $50 spinning reel isn't even close to being comparable to the higher end models like Stradics. Some of last year's CI4+ models are on sale now and I bought a 1000 series for $139 that will be delivered today. Brad

My favorite reels are my 2 Daiwa Laguna 3500s. I just wipe them down with a wet paint brush after use, change line once or twice a year and spray corrosion block in the rotor once a year. I have never opened the case and the reels still work just about as well as they did 12 years ago when I bought them. In fact better because I replaced the drag washers with cabontex washers. I bought both reels for under $40 with shipping from ebay.

My experience is only with the FK. The first real big redfish I caught on my 3000 FK shredded the felt drag washers. installed carbontex washers with cals grease , it's now butter smooth. I also replaced the bushing under the spool with a bearing and added a shimano micro shim between the main gear and side plate (gear side) b/c the reel had too much back play right out of the box. google stradic FK tuning upgrade if anybody wants to see how it's done...the reel has been flawless inshore since the upgrades.

I have a quantum kenetic sp (40) i got it in 2010 and it is much better than this thing. It has 2 large spools allowing for lots of line and higher pound test and line twist is very rare. The retrival is very smooth with 9 titanium ball bearings. The reel is made completely of metal with a beautiful red and black finish. Titanium bail is something ive have never had a problem with. I dont know why people complian about weight but with a completely metal reel it seems to not be light (My opinion not too much of a problem. I really done care) It costs about 80$ on amazon and honestly so worth it. Thank you for reading my random review on a much cheaper spinning alternative.

Braden commerford, High end reels are unnecessary. For $100 dollars though and even less you can get reels that are pretty near similar and still very fun to fish with. Here's a few cheaper options The okuma rtx for $100, has 8 bearings, waterproof drag, and only weighs 6.6 oz. There's also the daiwa fuego at $100, which isn't a super light reel, it weighs 9.2 oz, but its EXTREMELY smooth, has 9 bearings, very powerful, and very durable. There's also the kastking sharky for like $40 on amazon, which is pretty much a cheap stradic. Its only like 7.6 oz, its waterproof, and has like 11 bearings. It has a lot of good reviews too. Also, all of these reels even have that cool old stradic look to them too.

You could pair the whole ugly stik species series pretty well. You would end up with a light action crappie spinning rod, 5'6-9', your choice, 7' ML and MH striper rods, and a 7 or 8' catfish rod. They all match in color and are great multipurpose rods all around. The rods would only total $160 and of course you could pick spinning or casting on all of them except the crappie ones. But "they" won't tell you that...

While $230 is middle of the road or a casting reel (but definitely on the higher end) I would argue that the stradic's pricepoint is essentially the very top of everyone's range.
