Hi Micael, I'm having a lot of success with my OM-1 and Zuiko 60mm and Auto ISO setting in good light. I then use Lightroom Denoise if needed to clean up the image and this has allowed me to avoid flash altogether and my usable images went up from like 1 or 2 per session to dozens per.

Couln't agree more with all yours answers Micael.👌You are also spot on about focus bracketing shutter speed with the om-1 (1/100) and the e-m1 mkII/III (1/50), not a huge difference but the 1/100 does help to cut some natural light down in bright environments. As far as I'm aware Olympus/OM makes the only cameras who support focus bracketing with flash.. Looks like every other camera manufacturers don't take macro seriously if you ask me..

A little note on the choice of Laowa lens. If we have a mirrorless camera and choose Laowa 100mm, we will be able to easily adapt it to any other mirrorless system. I successfully use Laowa 100mm with the Nikon F mount in the Nikon Z system and Fujifilm GFX. When choosing Laowa 90mm with a native mount for a mirrorless system, the only option to adapt the lens is Sony e to Nikon Z.

for social media posts, other options for under 500usd rig are those clip on lenses phones. I see a lot of posts from South to Southeast Asia utilizing older photography-oriented phones (e.g. pixel 3 and 4 variants) in FB and IG, and they're getting good views/attention (which is the mostly the reason for social media posts anyway).

For $2000, a used EM-1 Mark II, Godox TT350, and a Zuiko 90 3.5 can be had. Ny setup, though, is the Mark II with the 60mm, Raynox, Godox, and diffusers for $750. Works like a dream. The G9 on one spot autofocus is pretty good, too. Real stcky once it catches on.

@@mark.physique9119 it takes AAs. I recommend Panasonic Evenloop rechargeables. It does have recycle times once you get to 1/4 flash settings if you're doing sequential low. But I usually do single shot; I rarely stack.

Thanks for this video! I own the Olympus 60mm macro lens and own a EM1mkII. Just ordered a used Godox V350 for Panasonic and Olympus, hoping to be able to use it as well in other cameras. I don't know if that is possible. I saw that the Godox V850III can be used in any camera and it is at the same price. Let see, I want to experiment with macro photography, and you inspire. Now I need to check the diffusers, but would like to start with something cheap, maybe home made for now. Hope this set up put me in the right track. What do you think? Thanks again, happy Japan vacations!

Bear in ming that the focus bracketing with Olympus cameras only works with specific Olymps lenses. I have the Sigma 105mm that won't do focus bracketing on the E-M1 mk II, but ity works fine on my panasonic GX80 and GH5.

I'm not sure if your questions was answered about the A7R5 focus bracketing with flash, it does but in a fast sequence only a few is synch with flash due to the flash recycle time. Say is a 20 frames bracket, only 10 frames will be flashed and the others will be dark without flash.

Hi Micael! I used your lens guide on the website and found out I could use the 65mm best with my a6700. However, with the focus bracketing option on this APS-C, is there a specific AF lens you would recommend for this camera and option? Would the Sigma 105 + Raynox 250 have a too long focal range or would it be ideal for bug photos?

As I said in the video, I'm not even sure the bracketing on that camera is good enough to photograph live insects. If it is, I'm not sure what 1x lens to recommend, they are all pretty similar.

Hey I got a question. I have an aps-c camera and a fullframe camera, both mirrorless. The aps-c camera is 20 megapixels and the fullframe is 45 megapixels. (Nikon Z50 vs Nikon Z9) When shooting in aps-c mode on the fullframe the images is almost identical size. Should I shoot on my aps-c or fullframe camera? FX camera is bigger and heavy. Aps-c lens 65mm 2x laowa or FX 85mm 2x laowa.
@MicaelWidell

In that case your images will be pretty much equal in quality. I would shoot with the camera that feels the nicest to hold and to use.

I think that the key point here is DOF, which is so small in macro. A better DOF can avoid you to make focus stacking, or to close your aperture and get higher iso… but it is really difficult to compare 2 systems without having the 2 for testing. In theory, I would say that APS-C will bring you a better DOF for the same picture. Example : for an aperture of 7.0, focus distance of 30 cm with 65mm APS-C, DOF=0,47 cm. In FF with 85mm, focus distance will be 26 cm for the same result (65mm aps-c is equivalent to 97,5mm in FF, so you need to be closer with a 85 mm FF) and in this case, DOF=0,26 cm at F7.0.

Hi, a few comments from a Sony user: 1. I use the Sigma 105mm f2.8 macro Art. I've also have a Laowa 65mm f2.8 2:1 macro. I use on an APSC A6600. Here are my thoughts: The Laowa was my first lens and it gives very sharp images but usually it is super difficult to get sharp images beyond 1:1 handheld as its a manual lens and the subject keep moving. The keepers are around 10 - 20%. The Sigma has significantly higher hit rate even near 1:1 as there is AF. However the AF on the A6600 hunts often. If used on a A7iv its a lot better. The Sigma lens is very sharp and I can get away with lower resolution images if I don't pixel peek. 2. I'm also interested in the stack focusing ability of A6700 and A7Rv. So far also can't find information. I intend to purchase the A6700 soon as it should give me more confident focus on the Sigma 105mm as well as stack focusing. I tried it in the shop but with no flash on. Might do some research first.
@BenjaminAdamsVu

I can tell you that the A7R5 can do focus stacking WITH flash, but you would need a fast recycle time flash (~0.1second recycle time?) to synch every frame. I would assume the A6700 is the same. FYI
