Even 40 years ago I always assumed boba fett and stormtroopers and Vader had HUDs and life support that made their helmets better than appearance. When Luke said “I can’t see a thing in this helmet” I thought it was because he didn’t know how to use it, and when Finn in force awakens says that helmets don’t have life support, I didn’t think that made sense. Why would real characters wear helmets 24/7 that they can’t see or breathe in? They wouldn’t. So in sci-fi, the audience can assume there’s tech assistance.

I don't think by lack of life-support it necessarily means lack of ventilation. In old clone trooper suits, and I believe this carried over to Stormtroopers as well, the suits have a vacuum-sealed if you ever get pushed out into space. I assume by saying it lacks a life-support system, this is what he means. And this fogging is why modern military gas masks usually has an inner mask around the mouth and nose and a design that sucks air into the outer mask from one side, have it pass across the eye lenses and into the inner mask on the opposite side and then direct exhalations out the front, with one way membrane valves at the filter inlet, between inner and outer mask and between inner mask and the exhalation grille. The masks also tent to have all the valves and a plug disc removable for cleaning or for switching side for the filter, plug disc and inner mask one way valve so that a single design can be issued to both right and left side shooters. Some masks are even designed with drinking tubes for connecting with CBRN-adapted water bottles and camel back style hydration systems.

Also as someone who uses pistols over rifles (cause I can't aim rifles to save my life due to being blind but I can quick aim a pistol with surprisingly good accuracy, which I enjoy surprising people with) and then prefers close range with swords and daggers (slightly less surprising for a blind person to be good at but still fun to surprise people with, that and the fact that I've competed internationally in blind fencing), going off this short the owl shape would probably be better for me than the T shape, my prefer combat styles would definitely fit better with one than the other.

Fan random related thing: modern day full face respirators do in fact follow the wide+long visibility style (albeit with one giant clear plate usually), and in order to deal with the exact fogging and breathing issues mentioned good ones will have a secondary gasket over your mouth with one-way valves in it. That not only makes it MUCH easier to breath since you're working to move air only in a very tiny volume of space (and thus also rebreathing less stale air), it also prevents condensation.

As a 'real' Mandalorian, yes the fogging up of the visor is a problem, but can easily be solved with little fans that are powered with a battery in the helmet. The airflow is also good for cooling in the summer

My favorite little tidbit of Mando lore is that, when fighting the Jedi, they made a point to use “Slug Throwers”, basically the Star Wars version of metal bullets in guns. Sure, the Jedi could just force block the slower lead projectiles, but when they’ve gotten used to laser blasts their instinct is to block with the Lightsaber. Resulting in a nice hot glob of molten metal going right towards your face. To quote Russian Badger: “Jedi can block lasers? Okay, have fun with this BUCKSHOT”

Can confirm about the fogging. I even used a welding blast shield with anti-fog protection and it still fogs up really badly because of how close to my mouth it is. I did a whole Mando cosplay last year and it was such a pain the ass to see.

T-shaped would be my choice. I would want the ability to more easily use a rifle but also I just like the aesthetics of the T-shape. It's more simplistic and I am a bit of a stoic.

Fun fact, we have anti-fogging tech(coating) for glass/plastic visors. My motorcycle helmet has it, and it is insanely impressive. I can feel the condensation build up on my cheek pads and around the visor. But it never fogs up the visor. Seriously cool stuff!

I would go with a T helmet. It looks like it would give you much better peripheral vision than the rest of them. It is also the most classic version.

I’ll always love the Neo-Crusader armor from KOTOR, tbh, and the infinitely more customizable ones from before that.

Avoiding condensation building up in the helmet is actually relatively easy. Cosplayers have to deal with it all the time. Taking inspiration from astronauts helmets, enclosed helmet costumes may have a small fan unit located in the top or rear of the helmet. The fan is positioned so it blows air across the top of your head and down the front of the visor. The air circulation prevents condensation from building up and also helps regulate the wearer's temperature.

I like the ones with the tall visors. Sure, they don't look as cool, but they might help you see better.

I love the Neo Crusader look from Kotor, but my favorite spin of the T-visor is Hondo Karr's more open visor

I love the look of the owl but the T slot is probably the most versatile due to better vision. But with a heads up display and air filtration it’s probably just style difference. I know it’s not mandalorian but I love the helmets like the stormtrooper cadet that allow the face to open without taking the helmet off. That way if your hud stops working or you’re on break you can open it while still having top, side, and rear head protection and you can put it back up real quickly.

The interior of helmets like this in Starwars usually had decondener units, a hud, a bit of padding on vital areas(top, side and back of the head), and com gear. Others had specialty additions, Commanders and other officers would either get and externally attached Microbinocular system or internally added as part of your HUD, these systems could also include Night and/or thermal vision. This was the most someone addition, some commandoes or particularly skilled and/or useful clone squads also got vital readings on themselves and squads. Mandos would at minimum have these attachments

my favorite is Paz Vizla’s heavy gunner loadout, you can’t go wrong with a big ass minigun and a reinforced helmet to match

T Visor! Mine is a 3D Print of Din's. I wear mine daily and you get accustomed to turning your head a bit more.

The T slot, at least in Legends, was indeed a design choice to make shouldering and aiming a rifle better

I always figured that the slat going straight down housed all the sensors and such for the display.

The original Mandalorian designs in KOTOR make a bit more since as its a completely sealed suit with both hard and flexible materials. Because its one contained suit its more apparent breathing or fogging wouldn't be as much of an issue, because its more like a space suit than a suit of armor. That said, they do not look nearly as cool as the Bobba style armors in the actual show.

Have to say my favourite is the T-shape, specifically Boba Fett's green and red one
