Biggest factors in Michigan's post Covid turnaround. 1) Years of strength and conditioning under Ben Herbert 2) Implementation of the "Baltimore Ravens"-esque defense 3) Ditching "speed in space" and the pass happy college football fad Then sprinkle on top over all of that the best culture and locker room in college football.

I find this interesting.... Washington ranks 10th in scoring offense, averaging 37.5pts/gm. Michigan ranks 14th in scoring offense, averaging 36pts/gm. +1.5pts/gm Washington. Michigan ranks #1 in total defense, allowing 10.21pts/gm. Washington ranks 53rd, allowing 24.14pts/gm. Michigan is a +14pts/gm. Overall, Michigan is +12.5pts/gm. Washington passes about 65% of the time. Michigan is second best in pass defense allowing 150yds/gm and just 7 passing TDs against. Michigan is 9th in rush defense allowing just 93yds/gm....total Offense against @ 243yds/gm. There are 8 Michigan opponents that rank higher than Washington in team defense and Michigan beat them all. Penix is going to have to be way better than he's already been and he's been very good.... Defense wins championships.... MICHIGAN 35 WASHINGTON 21

Also, force Penix to drop it short and go for long time consuming drives. Need to keep them from getting behind us. That and our run game will kill this game off

I was at the Rose Bowl for the game. Us Michigan fans were supeer LOUD! Every time Alabama had the ball the noise was deafening. The Rose Bowl is just an iconic setting. Wolverines would not be denied and it really felt the fans willed UM to the win. The game will stay with me for quite some time, it was just a great venue, great pageantry in a beautiful setting.

Respectfully disagree. Caleb Williams is the best at throwing on the run. And he has a Heisman to prove it. Then comes Bo Nix, a Heisman finalist. Then Cam Ward who was running for his life all season and still had a 1000 more yards than McCarthy. And Dillion Gabriel. Could name more, but why bother....

I agree with you that JJ is the best, just not used enough because of the style of play. Can't argue with the results. There is no way Michigan gets this far though without McCarthy extending plays like he does.

@@toddearlywine7498…it’s not an easy call. The 97’ team is my era as well, I’m only 3 years behind Brady. As a former player, now coach, I still think this 23’ team is more complete in all phases and a stronger overall defense. The 23’ team has a stronger more complex playbook and more weapons. But we’ll honestly never know how that matchup would go. Go Blue!

The difference between the 2 teams is on the offensive side of the ball. Defenses are equal. JJ McCarthys ability to extend plays with his legs would be the difference.

Nick Saban told the Alabama AD in the Alabama job interview that he was not the best X's and O's guy of all time, but that he was the best ever recruiter of all time. That was his own self evaluation. This is why Saban hires offensive Geniuses like Lane kiffin. Also, it looks like Bill O'Brien was right in his evaluation of Jalen Milroe's QB abilities. Jalen Milroe threw for under 120 yards. Woof. After all is said and done, the team with a better players and the better coaching staff and the better game plans won at the Rose Bowl. Remember when Clemson lost the national championship against Alabama because they failed to field one onside kickoff to start the 2nd half? Michigan had five major mistakes on special teams, and they still win the game because they had a stronger muscularity. Go Blue!

I dont know how the rest of the Michigan fans feel, but I'm nervous about this game. Washington can really move the ball, and our great defense will need to be great again. I feel like in this game, our offense will need to help the defense for a change, possess the ball and score touchdowns not field goals.

I admit I'm nervous also and you should be nervous because that Washington team is just too good and especially with all those NFL Wide recievers and Michigan Wolverine can't repeat those mistakes on special teams again because they will find themselves behind by double digits in a hurry and they have to play mistakes free football and great defense and put pressure on penix all game long to have a chance to win this game

I agree. But, our defense has been consistent, and that is THE most important thing. Our offense should perform better against UW defense. And, let’s hope the big game jitters have been ironed out after fighting through the Rose Bowl. I love these guys, great attitude, mature, stick-to-itness, they deserve this. If they win, each player will be a boon for any team they eventually play for due to their attitude and knowing how to win. Love’m all. GO BLUE, GO BLUE!

I was nervous until I dug deeper, considered stats in context, and considered some thing. Joel Klatt did a deep dive and was fantastic on it. kzitem.info/news/bejne/s4el3Wt7nYp2ho4 Michigan's D was made for this (Actually made for a better Ohio team from last year). And Washington's D sucks. If the Huskies win, it would be the worst D to be National Champion since before 1950. If they can't stop us, our D only has to make a couple stops and force a couple field goals. Harrison said this year our secondary was crazy good. He couldn't figure out our coverage. Tommy Dorman the punter will be filing for unemployment sometime Monday, cuz he won't step foot on the field. This is like a wolverine and a Husky in a cage fight. The Husky is fast and has moves, but who is betting on him to win? Michigan 41 Washington 24 Go Blue!

Watch the Texas-Washington highlights. You will see lots of missed tackles, poor coverage, no pressure on Penix -- things that just aren't going to happen with Michigan's defense. Also of note is the low number of points by Washington in relation to the number of passing yards. 430 yards in the air, and only 4 TDs overall -- 2 on the ground, 2 in the air. That's highly inefficient.
