Good question. when you hit the menu button, you get different options depending on wether your camera is in a photo or video mode. First, make sure your camera is set to video mode, then hit the menu button.

It should be a matter of changing your external mic settings from auto to manual, then you will be able to have more ability to adjust your camera's gain and preamp levels.

Hey ma’am? I got the Rode VC1 3.5mm TRS Microphone Extension Cable for Cameras (10') ROVC1 and sometimes it works perfect other times my NTG mic powers off and makes this terrible nasty noise that completely destroys the sound. Most of the time I record while looking up at the mic to make sure it’s still on and didn’t power off due to the extension cable. Before it shuts down the noise in the video during post is extremely staticky and intolerable. I need a solution 😔

Hello, I'm looking for my first microphone that's versatile enough to pick up both environmental sound and interviews... I'm really hesitating between the NTG and the Pro +, I have the impression that there's more accentuated parasitic noise (for the NTG) in the comparative tests I've listened to. Could it be a problem of setting and adjusting to get a clean sound without noise? ( I have a Sony A6400 ) 🙏🏻

Hey there, while we can't speak to any 3rd party comparisons, we can say that both mics have low noise when recorded using the right settings- you can find our section about setting the gain on the VideoMic NTG here: videomicntg.rode.com/support#:~:text=SETTING%20YOUR%20GAIN%20CORRECTLY

I am updating from a broken Boya BY-BM3032, to be used on a Canon T7i (to be replaced in the future for a Canon EOS R) or on a Canon EOS R if my Ronin SC supports it all (I currently use a Rode Videomicro on top of my Canon EOS R on top of a Ronin SC, camera to be replaced in the future for a Sony A7S-III).

We do sell the Lavalier GO in white! We would recommend it paired with a Wireless transmitter if you're shooting a lot of to-camera interviews or maybe you're recording the speeches at a wedding - this would be very useful. Whereas the on-camera shotgun mic, is likely not able to get this close to the subject and will pickup more of the ambience around the subject, but its more versatile in you're moving between subjects or need to be mobile.

Is anyone else having this issue? - When I do the "one notch above zero" setting, which I've done for every previous canon DSLR, it's worked beautifully, but with the r5 I get really awful distortion (with the attenuator turned off) even though the leveling meters on the camera are not peaking. Are you experiences this and do you have the attenuator on or off? The reason I turn off the attenuator on the r5 is because doesn't sound as clean when on to my ears. The distortion goes away when I make the audio mic input less hot and turn the r5 levels up to about 50%. Perhaps I have a faulty model of the r5. Not sure what's going on here. Also, I don't own this mic but all of my mics are distorting (I've tried several) and on previous DSLR's like the 5d3, 1dx iii, and 1dx ii, this didn't happen.

Hi Jonathan, we are having the same problem! Have you figured out a solution yet or heard back from Rode? We have the 1dx ii and never had any issues with the rode video mic pro plus, but no matter what I do on the R5 the +20db audio track gets blown out sounding even when the levels aren't that loud.
@JonathanRosenberry
3 жыл бұрын
@@WildWeRoam Sorry to hear this! Since I don't have a rode mic, I don't know the best solution to this issue, but, I did fix my problem by purchasing a mic level cable for my Mix Pre-D, allowing it to output a mic level from my mixer to the Canon (which is about -40db), and now I can have cleaner mic signal into the R5. This is how the new mirrorless camera's are designed now, it seems. Sony has the same issue (according to my own testing). I have these recommendations for you: 1. contact Rode's support team (which I didn't do since I didn't wasn't using rode) 2. Watch this guys video which explain's everything in great detail and more importantly, read our comments: kzitem.info/news/bejne/uaFjqGmepqeThmk 3. In the comments from the above mentioned video, he suggested replacing my 1/8inch cable with a -50dB pad cable for $30. I had a similar solution, but different. Basically, I bought a special mic output cable for my mixer instead of using the line output option I would normally use. With my new setup, when I use my wireless lav set up, I am satisfied enough with the noise floor. It's not as good as the 1dx ii or iii. But with my shotgun mic (with phantom power provided by my mixer), the noise floor is nearly gone, which is really awesome.

about the audio level setting, what is the "one notch above zero" exactly mean?
@rodemic
3 жыл бұрын
This means reducing the levels to as low as it can go while still allowing audio. The reasoning behind this is the VideoMic NTG has better preamps then the camera, so if the microphone is doing most of the work you won't get as much noise.
@greenpeppernation
3 жыл бұрын
@@rodemic Actually, this technique doesn't work in the R5, you will get heavily clipped audio. There seems to be some internal clipping going on, so you need to get the level to around a third or half (which is what you see them doing in the video on the LED). I followed your advice and got clipped audio, until I figured this out myself.

Video is great. Just one thing to think about, remember when you said audiences are far more tolerant of bad visuals than they are of bad audio? Bad audio isn't just the quality of the sound itself. It's also the thing you are recording. Audiences aren't very tolerant of high pitched things, and that includes voices. Hard to pay attention to the content when someone is obnoxiously nasal. At least push the gain down 3dB and use a high pass to take out those harsher notes. Crikey
