A vlogger said the nylon is better than metal Because of its dinner holes,can you comment?

The Stedman has an excellent feature in that it directs air gusts downward, away from the mic. Another metal product that works in a similar way, but costs less than the mid priced filter you mention, is the Auray PFMR. (Not affiliated with Auray, just a satisfied customer.) You also show an example of "sibilance" ("she sells sea shells ..."), which a pop filter does very little to prevent. Mic technique is a critical aspect for both plosives and sibilance. The user should place the mic slightly offset from the mouth: aim the mic at your mouth (at a slight angle), rather than aiming your mouth at the mic. Sound is vibrating air, and a mic can pick that up, even if you don't speak directly into the mic.

"See-through" function never crossed my mind, and I've always had to look sideways for the recordings. It's always amazing to see how professionals choose their products. You taught me yet another wonderful knowledge, hats off to you professor.

Thanks for this help! I've been dealing with pops and other sibilance moving from our radio studio to home broadcasting. With the Covid situation, I want to get a pop filter tough enough and easy to move from mic to mic that can be used from both studios. I think I'll go with the more expensive and durable option.

Do you think it's worth spending the extra money for a high-quality pop filter? Which pop filter will you choose?
@bennyloppo

People are trying to get better equipment as more and more stay indoors for longer period of time. And, as they yearn for better equipment, better accessories are must, (just like Apple, lol), so many would want to buy high-end great quality pop filter.

I came across this video by trying to search which type of sock is the best to use as a pop filter
@AudioUniversity
3 жыл бұрын
I would recommend pantyhose over socks. I think they would color the sound less than a sock. The Beatles actually used pantyhose as windscreens in their final rooftop performance. You can also go with a generic windscreen from Amazon if you’re on a tight budget: amzn.to/3939VjD

I rather have a bit less top end (boost it with an eq) than a huge plosive. The 25 dollars one to me did a better job with the plosive.

There really is a big difference in their quality. I bought a mic for 62$ so I don’t wanna spend the same on a simple pop filter… funny I thought a piece of metal would be a lot cheaper

It think it's machined aluminum that has micro diamond shapes cut into it to direct air downward at a 90 degree angle away from the microphone diaphragm. Doesn't sound cheap now does it? Especially when comparing it to pantyhose style nylon filters.
@danthreepwood2760

That's a bit strange.... The 25, and especially the 10 dollar filter both sound clearer and have waaay more mid and high than the 70 dollar pop filter, which has more bass and sounds fuller/richer. But later on you explain that it ''should'' be exactly the other way around? Could you elaborate because it's a bit confusing? Thanks & Cheerio

IMO the cheaper one is a solid to a plosives but also reduce the high frequency so youll lose some presence in your voice

Question: Even if it's not metal, can you still rinse off the other types of pop filter? Or is it not recommended to do so? Sorry if this question seems dumb, I never used a pop filter before, but I think it would work great for me!

Spray it with alcohol and let it sit for a while the alcohol scent will dissipate it will kill the germs and should prevent any built up or lingering oder. I've never had or even considered that problem I guess I don't use mine enough 🤷♂️

@@Kelvinapplegate if you have other people over the your studio you will notice i did a session and didn't wipe off the pop filter... 🤢 let's just say i have metal one for that reason alone 😂. A simple disinfectant wipe on metal filter and give it a minute to dry and it's ready to roll durable easier to get dust or smoke or whatever lands on it.

If you have perfect microphone technique, you don’t need one. I recommend using one when recording vocals. It protects you from losing a perfect take. If you don’t use one, you risk ruining your recording.

I can't understand the diff between condenser and dynamic mics. Why dynamic mics like Shure are used for vocals? And should i use a secondary dynamic mic in the Focusrite solo in future need for two mics? Some dynamic mics have XLR pins.

Also, ensure to put some space between the pop filter and the mic screen. The puff of air needs distance to disburse before it hits the mic element. Putting it too close to the mic prevents it from being effective.

If you are experiencing noise that sounds like gusts of wind, any pop filter will help reduce that noise. It won't help with other breathing sounds such as an inhale.

I believe the Stedman is better than the Sterling in any size room - it has better hardware and stays in place better. The size of the room won't play a significant role in which pop filter you choose.
