Kokkinoskoufitsa3 obviously knows nothing about blues or Jimmie Vaughan, judging by his comments. But then again, there was a time when I thought Jimmie Vaughan and most of the traditional players were boring. Then I started listening and studying the art form and realized that to play blues in a traditional style, as does Jimmie, it takes years. Not only that; it takes FEELING! Jimmie Vaughan is a walking encyclopedia of traditional blues riffs and if you listen to his stuff from over the years, you realize how much he knew and how great a player he is. Even Stevie said "If you think I'm good, you should hear my brother." Stevie knew that Jimmie is the real deal. If you think there is nothing to Jimmies playing, try playing like him. I can tell you, you will be a long time learning.

"feeling" is a word that is being tossed around all the time and is an excuse for average guitar players with no musical knowledge to play 10-minute, boring-ass solos that constitute of 3-4 cliche pentatonic licks that everyone has heard a thousand times and equally boring-ass 12-bar blues with no variation, as long as they look like they orgasm while they play. Jimmie is a competent musician, but he isn't, by any means, a legend.

Both of these comments deserve no comment, as it appears that neither of you know the meaning of the word FEELING. It has nothing whatsoever to do with so called musical knowledge. You don't learn how to play like this from a book. You learn from experience. Getting out there and PLAYING in front of real people and sharing the gift you have with them.

You just know that the brothers Vaughn learned, played, and were inspired artistically, together their whole lives so imagine what it'd have been like to hear the both of them alone as a duo in the old days when they were still yet up and coming... Both the rivalry and competition and the family, blood is thicker than water, united bond as brothers will do... Something to see... I'm sure...

The advice is great, and the playing ain't no slouch either. That thing he says, about not playing bullshit ... that's the thing. It's what Pres did, and Armstrong, where everything is pure song. It's how he's played so much *perfect* guitar, going all the way back to the early T-Birds records. Gibbons has it too, and it don't grow on trees.

Yes he is a very very good guitar player. His soloing is ' simple' and melodic, he says ' simple' but actually very difficult to achieve this simpleness. The KZitem video with Albert Collins and his late brother Stevie Ray is a must see. In minute 4 Jimmie starts his solo, i've listened to that solo over and over again (-:

Best music advice ever: Have your brother become possibly the greatest blues guitarist in history. After his death, receive recognition without any kind of musical talent. Try it. Always works.
@tomboyle9790

Oh for crying out loud. Jimmie Vaughan was becoming a true BLUES guitar star in about 1977 with The Fabulous Thunderbirds and their 1978 release of Girls Go Wild has some of the most inspiring BLUES guitar playing ever. If Stevie (a blues/ROCK guitarist) were reading this, he would be laughing at this extremely uninformed comment. You don't have to like Jimmie's playing, but you are comparing apples to oranges. Two brothers with different styles. As for the "greatest blues guitar player in history" tag... Stevie's fans were mostly (not all) air guitar rock loving teenage boys, while Jimmie was favored by the real BLUES fans. I am not knocking SRV. It's just reality that comparing them, because they are brothers, is pointless. Go listen to some BB and Freddie King and try not to compare them to Hendrix as that would also be pointless. A true blues fan will get what I am saying. I guy who only care about speed and guitar wizardry will not get it. You are one of the latter.

Alex Holland Oh, come on. Do you honestly think that jimmie would know such fame had not been for his brother? In my opinion, he is just an average musician and a mediocre guitar player, one of the thousand ones.
@anthlazanas1995
10 жыл бұрын
Tom Boyle Wow dude, way to make assumptions. First of all SRV is of the "texas blues" variety. He single handedly revived the blues in the 80's. By then, blues had hit rock bottom. Tired riffs, licks, solos and melodies were played to death by unshaved 40-somethings that thought noodling around on the pentatonic for 11 minutes over repetitive chord progressions passes as acceptable songwriting. Then came SRV, with ingenious musical ideas and a powerful guitar style, mixing classic blues influences (hopkins, albert and freddie king etc.) with jazz (wes montgomery) and rock (hendrix,clapton), Hearing jimmie's stuff...I get nothing. It is just standard, run-of-the-mill blues stuff. SRV's stuff on the other hand sounds, even today, fresh and energetic. Listen to "couldn't stand the weather" and tell me if it sounds like anything you have ever head. Just so you know, I don't give a flying fuck about speed. If I would, I would listen to loomis,vai,satriani,malmsteen etc., and I despise all of those guys. I consider myself a true "blues" fan, being influenced by all those I already mentioned, in addition to bb king, R.L. burnside, robert johnson, john lee hooker and many more.

Jimmie Vaughan is from the less-is-more-school, raw tone, feel, emotion, first-class, bad-ass. You can't, and shouldn't, compare these brothers. They are different players. Apples and oranges. If you don't "get" Jimmie and his style, just leave it alone. You said you like John Lee Hooker? Jimmie and JLH are cut from the same cloth, musically. I've been influenced by Jimmie more so than I have Stevie, even though I discovered Stevie first. Different ball games. Again, if you don't get it, or don't like his playing... fine, but just leave it at that. The negative comments are totally unnecessary.
