I couldn’t get my hands on a Shimano Tranx back in June but the guys at my tackle shop told me the next best thing was the new Daiwa Prorex, so I got the Prorex 8’6” telescoping Rod and Daiwa Prorex Reel around Father’s Day.Hopefully that $700 was well spent, as I have yet to use it as it’s been too hot and I haven’t had much vacation time.

You are so right about how the high end rods are more expensive, but what you get is lighter weight for the same performance. Over a long day of casting, or if (like me) you aren't super young or have any arm/shoulder/back issues... that weight reduction is really golden. It allows you more casts for the same effort. I haven't tried Chaos rods but will in the future. I really like their lures and their website and service are good.

I like the idea of the hole in the grip. But I wish they didn't drill the hole all the way thru. I was used to the standard hook connection on the green assualt sticks. Then switched to 2020s. If your in the heat of the moment with 3 rods rigged with baits and you quickly grab your rod the hooks will stick your trigger finger. Also bigger hooks with bigger barbs will get stuck in the hole. Plus I don't like the feel of the hole in the front. If it was just drilled half way it would eliminate all those issues for me. Thoughts?

I'm looking into getting my 1st musky rod. I've been fishing lakes off docks recently catching catfish, crappies, etc...also been doing so stream fishing for trout, but I want to try something bigger. There's a lake near me that has big musky called Milton Hill down here in Tennessee. Since I've seen 1000s of different variations and set ups I am overwhelmed by decisions. I primarily will be fishing from the banks till I can save up for a boat and my Tacoma and house really doesn't wanna accommodate a rod past 8'. Anyways, long story short I've narrowed my search down to the 7'-8' rod range and I plan on using MH power for smaller lures. Would a 7' 6" in MH be a good starter rod since I'll be carrying it around the lake? I just would like some advice. I could probably swing an 8' as well. I'm looking at St croix premier or mojo. I already have a beginner reel l, the Abu Garcia 6500 Ambassadeur. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

A little steep? Lets talk about pushing extremely expensive product. My 90's vintage Shimano Calcutta's and my 80's vintage Quantum 1420's mounted on older St. Croix Premier Graphite rods that were $65.00 a copy catch just as many and as big a fish as the stuff you're hawking. 9 foot rods is crazy.

I’ve bought two 400hg tranx in the last year and both came out of the box not working properly. Would only cast half as far as they should and than every so often they would randomly cast super far which would inevitably result in a backlash cause I wasn’t expecting it. Not super happy. The first one I even paid 50$ to send into Thorne brothers and have them repair it and they sent it back with the same issue.

@@tfacelift I had a similar issue once after I cleaned my Tranx. Something simple to look at is the ring in the side plate (don't know what the real name is, it's what the brakes rub against on the cast). That ring actually needs to be VERY lightly lubed for the brakes to work right. Put a drop ot two of oil on it and spread it around with a q tip so that there's a film of oil all over it.

I'm supper skeptical now days on products iam going to buy. So resale is a big driver on what goes in my boat. And where the money is going is another big factor. I still have some original 13 fishing gear that was made entirely in the states. It stinks they have sold out. I just found an American custom maker that shares his products with like minded individuals. Keeping business local helps our entire fishing system. Does any of the proceeds from these products go back into musky stocking and study?

I would recommend a 7 - 7 1/2 ' rod especially for beginners. Much easier to handle...much easier in the boat space....much easier when you catch a fish as the longer rod is very hard to maneuver in a netting situation.

You stopped yourself on the handle. Why not the rest of the product. The manufacturers need to understand, product identity will sell more customers. Even st croix found out the hard way.
