Ikwerre is a subethnicity of Igbo. They speaks Igbo in their own tongue just as over 50 other tongues of Igbo language. I can easily understand Ikwerre Igbo than Abakiliki or Nsukka Igbo. Anambra alone has over 20 different Igbo tongues (variations in speaking). The only reason Ikwerre is ashamed of their Igbo root is because of abandoned property acts where Ken Saro Wiwa lured them into taking their Igbo properties and for that reason they lived in guilty conscience thereby trying to reject their Igboness.

@Sobulachim Wechie she only stated the truth na.. it's a matter of you telling her that it's cultural assimilation. And to be specific, the kalabaris have been the major influence to the culture (especially dressing) of the entire Rivers State and bayelsa. Cultural assimilation is natural, we all love good things. @@orondahwali5852: Whether Ikwerre or Ndoni or Nkwerre, they are all Igbos and speaks Igbo language in different tongues like over 100s other different tongues of Igbos. Apart from Nigeria OIL politics of divide and rule and abandoned properties acts there won't be any Ikwerre today rejecting his Igbo root upon all their names, town names, language and everything in them are Igbo. It is time to emancipate yourself from mental slavery and embrace your originality, today Fulani from all African are coming into Nigeria to take citizenship and regroup with their Fulani brothers but today, only Ikwerre is a subethnicity in Africa that is rejecting their real root (Igbo) just because of OIL and abandoned property acts and politics of divide and rule by Nigeria government which made Northerners the owners of over 80% of the OIL.
