Who knew buying an office chair could be so stressful. I have been searching for a good chair for a while now. I was originally going to go with a cheap Amazon chair, but then I binge-watched a bunch of review videos because all of the Amazon chairs were problematic. It was this review that convinced me to get a Leap V2. You guys gained a customer today.

i also tried basic chairs, gaming chairs (dx racer, razer) basic office chairs, high quality chairs (gesture, haworth comforto) and my favorite was the leap v2, but only after removing the lumbar support attachement (its easily removable ) and have the lumbar support setting on the lowest! if you have the same issue that the lumbar feels too strong, try that :)

True! What I would most definitely recommend is trying any chair before buying it, because every body is different. This could mean possibly missing out on a good online deal, so take it with a grain of salt, but that's why I'm calling this a recommendation and not a rule.

"Herman Miller chairs looks nice but I can't be comfortable with it" - couldn't agree more. I bought a brand new Aeron 2 years ago tried to make it work for six months - sold it with a huge loss and bought a new Embody - really wanted to love this chair but gave me shoulder pains. They look very stylish and I really wanted to love them but no matter what settings/sitting posture I took I couldn't find comfort. I finally bought a Gesture after trying out the Fern, Leap, and Titan - and that ended my office chair hunt. The Gesture is the end game chair for me. It just works - no special figuring out is needed, just sit with a good posture and relax and I can sit on it all day. The seat pan is firm, when I first sat on it felt like concrete - but after a week of sitting on and finding the proper seat height it quickly became comfortable. Overall if I could redo my entire WFM office chair hunt I would have started on the Gesture first - it would have saved me HUNDREDS of dollars and months of pain/frustration. Cheers

When you put your own-brand chair to c-tier, I know that this going to be another honest review. Last year, I have my eye on both Steelcase Leap vs Gesture. The only reason that I don't like Leap is the lumbar too strong and the headrest. So I chose Gesture. Never regret this decision. What is your favorite one for Ryan, Greg and Joe for reference only not gonna bias me anything. Thank you for all of your review guys.

I actually purchased the Staples Hyken in Grey Mesh a little over a year now. I get what they mean about it being uncomfortable but honestly for me personally it’s great. I use it for gaming, average 1-2 hours - maybe max 4 hrs straight on a weekend. It keeps my posture as it should be. I don’t have back problems or anything. It just took finding the sweet spot adjustment for me, loved it ever since. I bought a foot rest and armchair cushions off Amazon to compliment the chair and to me it is well worth it in comparison to paying $1000+ For a chair. Some people treat chairs like investments while others simply don’t have the budget. Either way i apprrciate the transparency in these reviews.

@Kixsanity

I believe it does seem to be different in comparison to the black. Also i don’t have the yellowing problem they mentioned. Either it’s just on the black model or they specifically just happened to receive a faulty version of the chair. I will say this that i forgot to mention in my original comment. The skin to mesh contact doesn’t feel great. I personally don’t know anyone like this but if you’re one of those people who likes working or gaming on your chair shirtless or in underwear. The mesh doesn’t feel comfy on the skin.

Or just your favourite picks for full mesh chairs maybe with the insight of small lightweight people. (There's the upcoming SteelCase Karman which seems to tick all the boxes and looks phenomenal, but I think the Capisco is the chair to pick, at least for me)

I owned an Aeron. Sold it, bought an Embody. Sold it, bought a Fern. I also sat in Steelcase Leap and Gesture. Between all of them, Fern is by far my favorite!! I ordered mine fully adjustable but without added lumbar support. Plus headrest. Yes, the armrests aren't as solid as the others, but they're fine. That's really the only con, in my opinion. As someone that moves around a ton, and sits in all sorts of weird positions, Fern is nearly perfect. I love the headrest as well. It's solid, non-intrusive, and comfortable for just supporting behind the curve of your neck while leaning back.
@abhinavchikara

Hey, can the armrests be taken off completely (if needed) from the Fern chair? On most chairs when I rest my elbows on the armrests I find my shoulders tend to rise up a bit cause the armrests aren’t low enough.

I cringed when you came to the Secret Lab chair, but after a moment realised the sarcasm and breathed a sigh of relief. You get a sub based on the impartiality of this demonstration alone. Thanks for not being sellouts, and for simply stating objective perpectives. One thing that diiffers in Australia, that sadly most Aussies do not really understand, is our consumer laws are second to none. The consumer has the power of warranty, and determining quality of purchase, as well as holding companies accountable for their over zealous marketing and misrepresentations of both product quality, and so called company policies warranty. I'm a tiny bit closer to finding something that might be suitable for my own needs, but now recognise I'll never buy something without first sitting in it, and experiencing it for myself. Again, well done lads. EDIT: Ah, I see you now have a ranked list for comfort also.. eeeexcellent.

Sadly, mine is without a headrest. My only complaint about it is that being in Singapore, it can get hot to sit in for long hours but apart from that, the comfort it offers for sitting for many hours is just unparalleled.

Great reviews guys, but MAJOR flaw: You go through 20 chairs very quickly and do not put brand names on the tier chart. That means we either have to remember every brand, where you put it and why (impossible!) or keep reviewing the KZitem over & over and taking notes. The obvious fix is to put brand names right under each chair on the tier chart, and feature the chart only, full-size, at the end of the video, so we can pause or screenshot it and see every brand and where you tiered it. Otherwise, it’s just a useless bunch of tiny photos with no memory of which ones you put where and why.

so are headrests just bad? Really inbetween chairs I've tried quite a few and it's a hassle to send them back or sometimes just bite the cost and try and sell it used myself on some online marketplace like craigslist. None of the A rank chairs have headrests it seems or at least are what is pictured, or maybe they're just sold separately? Would've really liked some slides between chairs showing price and features other than someone just sitting in them and fiddling with it.

I work for the largest Office Furniture Remanufacturer in the US and get to see this stuff after it’s 10-15 yrs old. Without a doubt Steelcase is a tank and it’s repairable. Herman Miller is good but a distant second for being repairable except for the Aeron. Haworth Zody is the only decent chair Haworth ever made and Knoll cannot be forgiven for building expensive chairs that completely self destruct after 7-8 years. I do agree with most of your opinions and rankings but wonder why you’re not testing Sit OnIt. They may well be the largest Task chair producer in the US now with a bulletproof product and warranty to boot.

I work for an office furniture dealer, an no one really has the money to spend on an Aeron, for a chair in a more 350-500 price range I sit in a Kimball Joya task chair, they have a version that doesn't have as many of the fancy adjustments but is quite comfortable is you are an average sized person I'm 6'2" 195lbs and I like it a lot Also would recommend a Global Vion... the build quality is not as good but it does have quite a few nice design features for the cost lastly I would never buy a chair with a mesh seat. If it is inexpensive that means the mesh will suck. and if it is expensive you just end up over paying for what is mostly a gimmick. save the money and just buy a better chair with a fabric seat with good foam

Also in my embody and although I agree the arm rests are not great I do realize now that I rarely use my arm rests other than a place for my elbows to rest slightly, my mouse arm is always forearm flat on desk and when typing I keep my elbows tight to my sides which I would never want an armrest pressed against my body. Great information in this video. Very objective outlook. I appreciate the honesty a lot. That being said, no matter where you put the IKEA Markus I will still consider it the best office chair I ever sat in. Of course this topic of "Best office chair" is highly subjective. I work as a programmer and my hobby is gaming, so I've been sitting in it for 10+ hours a day, for the last 7 years. I had a HM Aeron at my first job, 8 years ago and it gave me severe upper back and neck pain. I traded it in for a Markus we had lying around that nobody wanted, because everyone had to sit in the HM. The thing I love about he Markus is being able to sit fully upright and still be completely supported, both in the lower back and headrest area. I can lean back on it and still be fully supported. The only "bad" things about it are the static armrest and the seat cushion being a bit too "long" for people who have shorter legs. But still, I will always trade in those comforts for having the perfect office chair for me. And the price is really low for what it offers allowing me to own several of them easily and even gifting some to friends over the years.

I can't say if I agree with the ratings because I've never tried any one of these chairs. I wish I could test them all out and see which one I like the best. I feel like the Gesture looks really good with the Blue and I like the idea of the Arm Rests being soo adjustable (current chair has fixed arm rests that are too high) A chair that's also easy on the Tailbone would be appreciated too, but yea... The thought of having to buy and return, then buy again is a bit much. Also, as far as I know, the Secret Lab Chair in this video is the only one that has a Locked Recline at very Low Angles, which is appealing to be honest. Great Video though and I appreciate the Off-the-Cuff type commentary. Subscribed and Bell Button pressed.

As a hyken user that feels pretty comfortable in it, I'm pretty surprised to be honest :P. But I am pretty small and I heard many people have problems because they feel the metal on the sides. Also, I firmly believe your mesh has a defect which might influence the comfort. I worked somewhere where it was this chair that they used for everyone and none of them had the yellow things.

can you do a video about chairs for the short and heavy crowd? I am 5'2" and 400lbs and I have been searching for years for a chair that I can afford. I am also in my chair for upwards of 12-14 hours a day. I really want a Leap Plus, but it is far out of my price range. I have a Leap V2 that I got used, but it is too narrow.

I'm 6'5" 280 lbs, and I've been using an old Aeron C for a few years now, but now that I'm also working from home I want to really spend some money on a very nice ergo chair that I can also kind of lounge in, since after work I'm typically gaming or writing at my desk. While I love my leather Humanscale Freedom with headrest I personally wouldn't go higher than B tier. I don't understand the issue with the headrest, I think it's one of their best features. I do think their Liberty is a better chair overall but it doesn't have a headrest.

@@Nigel__ If you place it well it works. The only problem for me is that it doesn't move with your back when you recline so you need to move it depending on reclining or sitting upright. It's one of the "upgrades" I want for the next model.

Love the ranking. Was however wondering if you guys have tried the Sidiz T80. Seems to be a pretty popular model as well. In the market to replace my Ergohuman ME7ERG that I purchased in 2009 for $480. Just feel uneasy spending close to $1k on the same chair with it only being ranked as a c. I like the Catalina and ordered one however it won't be here till November so I'm looking for something potentially better that I can get sooner. I would like to stay under $700/800 if possible but get something hopefully better than the ergohuman it will replace. I'm in IT and sit in front of computers all day long.

I bought a gesture after having tried leap, aeron, and series 1. Gesture is a tier above all of those. I think people forget that with the gesture you can sit in so many natural positions and it still provides excellent support. Aeron and leap aren't as flexible

The neutral posture brand was always our go-to for people who has specific recommendations from an ergonomist, because we could mix-and-match backs with multiple seat pan shapes and sizes. You could really tailor a fit. And if you got the 100 or 200 mesh back, (or the mesh back XS), in black, it blended in and didn't stick out as "different" chair in a sea of black mesh chairs.
